I am getting my last load ready now, a lot of yards close on Dec. 20 for x-mas break. Mine closes on the 20th at 12:00 noon.
Re-opening in the new year, Jan 6th.. This is when everyone takes their 2 weeks of holidays.
Git er'in before they close!

Yep.. got some #2 copper wire, aluminum and a run to the core-buyer to make before the week is out. Good reminder though! Thanks SUPERDave!
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!
The yards by me are like banks, they never close more than two days in a row. One yard that I go to in Tampa is open 7 days a week.
Thanks for the heads up. I don't have anything ready to take in right now, but I did want to stop by and give them a nice Christmas fruit cake.
Monday is the last day for me. Will be working all weekend to get it all ready.
I went by the yard with a box full of fruit cakes. The guys working there asked how much I was selling them for, and were surprised when I said "Merry Christmas" everyone gets one for free. That went over great and they each got one, plus one for the owner. These people have treated me well this year, saving items that they knew I would want, helping me catch scrap thieves, helping me unload and generally being nice. I thought the cakes would be a nice small gift to show thanks. It felt good to spread the Christmas cheer around.
The cakes were ones our church makes each year for a fundraiser. These aren't the typical hockey puck, door stop fruit cakes. They are more like cake with fruit in it. My job was wrapping them, because I am not a great cook. I have to buy them myself, but it is worth it to be able to give them away.
Only days ours are closed is Christmas day and New Years day.
Yards here were open til Noon on Christmas Eve. I hustled and got rid of a car and a whole bunch of loose steel. I love it when I can use a junk car as a dumpster for all the buckets and barrels of accumulated material.

Most of the yards here finished on the 20th and return on the 6th. It's the only holiday I get all year, so I'm enjoying just chilling out at home.
Wish there was one here in the Fort Worth area that was open seven days a week. With working a regular job I am limited to trying to get my stuff in on Saturday mornings. With all the dishwashers I am accumulating from my big job and all the other stuff I am picking up after work during the week I have enuff for about 15 16ft flatbed trailer loads. I should be able to finish that big job this weekend, then can start concentrating on getting loads to the yard. Instead of 2 hour round trips (to the job site) it is only about a 20 minutes to the yard, so I will shortly be able to start taking in several loads each Saturday and start getting caught up. But would still be nice to have a yard open on Sundays. There is one a ways to the east of me, but not really that cost effective due to the extra fuel expense.
Decided to give this a bump, with the milder weather and all, wish I were still getting last year's scrap prices..
I wish I had a yard near me that was open Sundays! That is going on my xmas list.
METAL IS MY MISTRESS...PLEASE DON'T TELL MY WIFE!
I plan to take two weeks off. I'm getting my daughters for christmas vacation first time in six years.

My yard closes at noon Christmas Eve and opens back up the 27th
Scrapper, Scrap Yard Worker, Horse farm worker, Cooler Puller and just plain ''tired''
There is not one yard within 100 miles that is open Saturdays, much less Sundays. Does not matter to me since the price dropped and I control my own schedule. On weekends I try to load two trailers for quick loads to the yard on Monday and get other metal ready to load for the rest of the week.
The local yards are owned by people of the Jewish belief and the holidays will not affect their schedule. Have to take two weeks off from my preferred lifestyle to spend time with the family during their vacation. It must suck to work on someone else's schedule, but I would not know.
Sorry for not being politically correct, but Merry Christmas, not Happy Holidays. No offense intended, just my beliefs.
they will make it a long weekend for both new years and christmas
