    bedbugs

i threw a dingy looking roadside foldout couch into my truck and all i can think about now is bedbugs

when i started hackign at it with an axe, did that wake them up and they all start scurrying around?

when i spent ~wayyyyy~ more than 15 seconds loading it in my truck cuase it kept getting cuaght on **** and then falling over on me, did that give them plenty of time to hop onto my clothes?

and this being a roadside couch thats been sitting there for god knows how long
bed bugs are unlikely to be active during the day unless seeking a meal
i tossed that **** out of my truck.. but in the processs of driving around miles, and slamming and jerking other large crap in there, that any of the bugs fell off and started crawing around into my toolboxes and what not???

I cant sleep I keep getting all itchy and paranoid all over (apparently you cant feel bb bites so hopefully im just freaking out)

If you were getting bitten by bedbugs you would feel it trust me I've had em before. Google pictures of their bites. If you've got any they will be covering your legs in super itchy blisters. Use rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle to kill em if you got em

Thats why i would never pick up any furniture not worth the risk of getting them.If you do get them in your home then be prepared to spend about $1000 getting rid of them.Hell with some bedbugs lol.

i just checked the couch for bedbugs but all i could really see was lots of little tiny clumps of dirt from being tossed around on the ground

I didnt see any blood spots nor bug casing, although ive never really seen them before so i may have overlooked them... hmmm

I read that the bugs are the size of lincolns head on a penny, that seems pretty hard to miss...

You're probably safe there blue. Soon as you get scrubbed down with some deisel and rinsed with some lye soap you'll be fine(haha ; )

Don't feel too awful bad, you're not the only one who's drifted into something like that, only to realize later the possibilities

my son said they are the size of apple seeds - I think you'd be able to see them even in the daylight bluemate.

I myself have stocked my moms place and my sons place and my own with picked up furniture etc so I always double check things real good. though, I do not pick up couches or mattresses to keep.

One time I picked up a tv that had roaches in it and i FREAKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! right to the street it went un gutted!!!!!

Then I danced around screaming, are there any on me????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!

An yes they suck and furniture for me isn't worth the effort what with the new revival in bedbugs.

Sirscrapalot - Off to dream of napalming bed bug colonies, or whatever they live in.

Then you, an others like you Blue should look into bedbug facts, an how to tell signs of them.

I'd link the link, but that would mean having to find it again, an that's not happening tonight. My wife works for a major hotel chain, an she does all the checking when we stay in a hotel, or even think about buying furniture an what not from thrift stores, or where ever.

Either way good luck, for me it's a no go. To many travelers on my sandbar, an rental homes.

Oh look at that..turns out I do have a link. Not the one I was thinking of but..it may help those of you who only "hear" about the bedbugs. Enjoy.

Bed Bugs - Myths & Facts

Oh an this is what one looks like..

Sirscrapalot - Maybe I should've posted what they looked like, after dinner time.

While Cincinnati has it high points, like Graters Ice Cream, Bengals, Reds and Skyline Chili, we ranked number one for them critters, not a highlight for the city. The University Of Kentucky Entomology Department has some of the best info that I have been able to find. Unfortunately, it is something that many here have to deal with. There is always mattresses and couches out at the curbs around the neighborhood. They are pia, but ... it is something that we can be proactive about.

We have a routine of treating the house every month. Between using a steamer, putting a powder in electrical sockets, and using a spray around baseboards, vacuuming often, etc...we see more spiders than bedbugs, in the coarse of the year. Have talked to some exterminators who agree that if we could get more people to be pro-active, rather than re-active, we could maybe win the battle. But the reality down here is, that you may have one hitchhike home from the movies, or Wallyworld, or a gas station. And even though all the e-scrap hits the carport or shop, we still load and unload and who knows if one crawled in a pants cuff or not.

So, we just keep doing the routine and try to be prudent about what, and who, we let in the house.

I worked in lots of hotels and the not so funny thing is when the maintenance guys get rid of one of these beds they cut the mattress with a big x on both sides and toss it in a rented roll off dumpster and some still get taken.... I am almost sure no one is taking these to sleep on but if they take them to gut the springs they are going to take home more than a few dollars from them! yuck!!!

Yea, they do the x thing here to, not just the hotels, but the rental houses. I think they are required to do it here by law. An Brojer, thanks for that link, UofK is the one I was thinking of earlier. My internet connection is be craptastic the last week or so. hence me not wanting to go look for the link..lol.

In short..Bedbugs suck. Cost money to get rid of, an learn how to look for signs to save your self the cost of getting rid of them.

The best thing you could do is when you get home from somewhere that is "suspect" strip and throw your clothes in the dryer. Heat kills bedbugs.

another thing that works is ether and the smell comes off a little easier and you don't have to dig in your tank for the fuel. Ether also works great for poison oak/ivy. about 15 minutes and its gone! Just a tidbit..

i saw no signs, but i wasnt too sure where to look for them. i saw a lot of small 1-2mm black things that were almost all just morsels of dirt from being tossed around the ground. i checked the cracks of the clothing and couldnt really see much. i didnt see any blood spots or anything but i dont know how big/small those are and dont know how well they would blend into the color of this couch. any sure places to check that the bedbugs would def be hiding in? the couch is sitting in the lot next door right now.

    TLDR
how should i properly inspect this for bedbugs?

read the link Brojer Posted, from the University of Kentucky. All your answers lie in that link.

Everyone should read it an know the signs of what to look for.
