I didn't take my first trip to a scrapyard til November of 2012, so this was my first full calendar year, and I'm a part-timer... but I am fortunate to have some VERY sweet hookups. Well, at the end of last year, I set a Tennessee Ernie Ford goal of 16 tons for 2013... busted through that number on August 27th.

Turns out, I was 10 tons and change heavier counting today's load!

    copper ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 412
    xmas lights ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 488
    brass ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 529
    alum ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 1136
    motor/trans ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 1297
    wire ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 2191
    ewaste ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 2350
    printers ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 3605
    tin ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 37960
    other ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 2235
    total ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 52203

I'm not comfortable discussing specific dollar numbers here, but the top-line revenues are 5 digits to the left of the decimal, although the bottom line falls short of that. Plus Uncle Sam's gonna want his cut by April 15th. Luckily I've held back about 25% of my net to double-function as buy money and tax paying savings.

    Here's hoping to a bigger & better 2014!

It's awesome to see everyone's posts. What other business segment can you wake up and say the sky is the limit today.

Aumimer, awesome job. Solid weights and you made $$.

I know quite a few who have crazy sales and costs or growing the business sucks up so much $$ you look at your sales and go what the !!!

Then there's a few guys I know who sell me just rotors and a few hundreds a day. Buying at a buck each and selling to me at what ever (little under 300 ton, I have to eat lol), it works out to usually 2 something a rotor. They are making a couple hundred plus each day with no expenses. Fuel insurance etc. these guys are making bank. Like most of use started.
2014 I'm keeping it simple and enjoying this job. Love it ! An our fourm.

The way I see it, I have three and a half years to establish a business that can support me someday, I love this line of work and in three and a half years I'll be out of college with a business degree, bring it on 2014, we got work to do, because I don't want to do anything else.

I truly appreciate all the comments! Just did a first run for 2014 and dropped off 520 lb. of shred/tin. New price for the new year is .10 a pound here in FL. Just a drop in the bucket, but it is a start!

2013 was the best year I have had yet. 2014 should yield some great numbers with a start of roughly 9800# already this year. May we all have a healthy, very profitable 2014!

1st I want to say I can't believe I missed this thread. 2013 was the fastest year I had ever had. I quit my job to scrap full time the end of 2012. I also lost a partner early in the year, friendship was salvaged after some time. I bought and scrapped 350+ cars between January and the 1st of October. My yard manager told me I ranked #20 in his yard in iron even out of commercial accounts. This also was not counting my non ferrous as most iron haulers only haul iron and God only knows how many aluminum wheels I broke down. Around the 1st of October I started work for a company that maintains generators for cell phone towers. I still haul a car every now and then. Other than losing an awesome girlfriend, 13 was my best ever but 14 is looking to line up pretty good

I had a good year! wasn't awesome but i paid the bills and keep on spoolin. April to Sept. was on fire after that it was crap. My world slowed right down after oct. I'm very thankfull i got the full time job I've been trying to get for over a year at Cat dealer.

my biggest problem was the more scrap i hauled the more my expenses increased. Always seemed to just make enough to keep scrapin the next day. couple hundred every other day doesn't rebuild transmissions and replace trailer tires. but it pays the rent and insurance and puts food on the table and diesel in the tank. Don't even get me started on the insane competition for vehicles. Decided to slow down and find profit. you can only brake even so many times before you start throwing sh@t

We are also in an area that is only 145000 people it is tough to get massive numbers like some of the big e-waste companies. We are R2 and iso14001 certified.

it was a weird year to say the least. I tripled my income but, instead of it being spread out over the full 12 months of the year, I made most if it during the spring and summer with minimal picked up all winter.

This past year also seemed to fly by not sure why.

I also started selling scrap items and other things on CL which I never did before and also made some new contacts.
