    Goodwill pick

Hello everyone, hope you are all doing well on the last day of 2013. And I wanted to share with you, my score today

My story: Donating an old couch today, I noticed 5-6 tvs sitting out behind the local goodwill. All but 2 were already smashed and the copper gone. I figured it was a long shot, but I went in and asked about them anyway. I was told by the manager that I could take anything back there as long as it wasnt already in their dumpster. She also told me that I would be doing them a favor because they will get broken if they stay back there.

So I pull around back to grab them, and find that one of the good tvs had been smashed in the short amount of time that I was in the store. One of the workers had to run someone off in that short amount of time. I took the good tv and the one that just got smashed (everything was still in it) and a small microwave.

Stuff gets taken from there every day. Now because I am the only person to go in and ask about it, I have permission to take anything from the back from now on.

Glad your Goodwill actually has people who work there an know what customer service is.

Me I'll still stick to my local thrift stores. Dealing with GW left such a bad taste in my mouth it isn't even funny.

Either way glad it work for ya, an yes..Thrift Stores are awesome.

Oh so true Red. Doing my best not to go on my GW rant.

Still glad it work out for ya Cajun. Wish they all were so well staffed.

An Red, on your own thrift store...even with the Volunteer outfits there is someone in charge. Get cracking on pestering them folks. Or whoever is in charge daily. Always someone who has the boss title an can reach the boss.

Sirscrapalot - Look mods..first day of the new year, an I'm being good.

Thats true sir . Ive been in a few days . And talked to the guy who i think runs things . Ive heard some shady things about the place and the guy . Ive also seen first hand when trying to buy old extension cords his prices were nuts. Knowing my my luck if i were to say $5 for a broken washer , he would want $100

That's astounding to me, that people are running/sneaking up to Goodwills to smash the TVs. Next, will people break into houses to clip the cords off people's electronics? Are we at that point?

thats crazy in that short amount of time someone was smashing things up. i got a local thrift store i work with. they throw some stuff away i get the pick of what i want now i never have just runned up and smashed a tv it is rude tp do that and make a mess. and if it worked it sux if a family really could use it that could not afford a brand new one. people are just rude now a days at least take it and do npt leave a mess if it is broken

Our local Salvation Army has a dumpster outback, and I would occasionally stop to see if there was anything in it, (Scrap, Glasses, Resale) , and everytime I would go through there, there would be a mess. So I would stop, grab what I wanted from in the dumpster, then Id grab the push broom and scoop shovel I keep in my cab and clean up all the junk around the dumpster. But now there is a sign out back that basically says if you are caught on the property after hours , that you will be arrested, becasue of all the messes the other scrappers leave. It makes me sick that people are too lazy to clean up after them selves...

In my old town in Arizona, I had a senior center thrift store that tossed so much good stuff in their dumpster. I had a nice relationship with them, and they let me look/take whatever I could recycle.

I miss that. I hope to find a good thriftstore in my new area. Officially moving in tomorrow night, and looking forward to setting up my workshop. It's been tough, working on the floor in this temporary Florida place I've been staying at.
