No now I just have it hooked to an extra battery. I will run it to my truck soon.

I didn't want the van to fall off the trailer, so I flipped it for you
Thanks JohnC4x4 how did you rotate it.
I run mine off a battery in the trailer that is connected in parallel with the trucks Battery whenever the trailer is hooked to the truck
I have installed a connection at the front and rear of the truck for doing jump starts and I use the rear to connect the trailer battery to the truck's battery and charging system

Have used the same setup on the 1995 F250, the 2002 F250 and currently on the 2008 F350
Never had a problem with alternators
I have a similar setup for quick connect on the rear of my pickup. I'm guessing yours were all diesels with 2 batteries, might have something to do with it.
Thanks I will get a semi battery. But the winch is the best investment I could have made.
I have a Deep Cycle Battery on my trailer that I throw a trickle charger on as needed...never have run out of juice so far...knock on wood.

Yeah I misread that part, I was running my winch directly off pickup battery and no battery on the trailer, while pickup was running, bad idea. Since I got a semi battery, I usually don't need to charge it in between winching sessions. I flip on my constant duty solenoid while going down the road and it charges up in no time flat.

My friend runs his off of dual optima deep cycle batteries - wired into his f250 diesel. He has a simliar quick disconnect as the lexan jump set you bought ( think just the connectors were $40 A SET ) with a 2 gauge wire running from the batteries to the rear of the truck. You have you have a circuit breaker in their so you don't fry anything. He told me not to run a winch off of just a battery because it will put a large load on the motor as the battery gets weaker and can fry the winch?
Cool to see that there are alot of similar setups going on though with the wiring.
i was going to by a winch from harbor freight but since there stuff is junk and have not had good luck with there stuff. i rather spend few extra dollars and get a good one.
i ended up buying a warn vr10000 winch. now just need to take my car trailer to a welding shop to have the winch plate welded on.
I use to run the Ramsey REP8000 but for the last 3 years have been running the Harbor Freight 1200
Only cost $300 and last at least a year. I have yet to find something they won't pull onto the trailer.
When I get into the 350 Dually's with no wheels, or plow still attached and up to the hubs in dried mud >> I have had to use a snatch block to double the pull
First one lasted over 2 years and the current one is going on 6 months
My old 9k hf still works, two years plus and countless cars later. I upgraded to 12k due to the chewed up wire rope. I don't know how many cars and pickups I winched that were missing 2 or more tires. At just shy of 700$ for a warn, my 300$ 12k hf is just as capable for half the money.
iv'e read mixed reviews on the harbor freight winches. it kinda scared me away from them. i did not want to get out some where and first time i load a car with it and it crap out on me. i payed $579 with free shipping on the warn winch.
Jmerritt a Warn was a good choice. I've seen them last for years. Although I would love to have a Warn or Ramsey my money was not right. I do believe in quality tools. I'm not going to bad mouth HF but there are things I will and want buy from them. I have a friend that has a winch from them and is very happy with them.
