To answer the question: Christmas presents for the wife, birthday presents for everyone, presents period, and deodorant. My scrapping partners, both labs do not care what I smell like. Just kidding on that one and I would not use deodorant I found.

Most of my free goodies come from cars that I part and junk. A few things I should never have to buy- flashlights, jumper cables, cheap pocket knives and cheap/junk tools to name a few. Whenever I buy a junker, I always ask the seller to make sure they have gotten everything out of it that they want. Perhaps it's just my inner cheapskate talking, but I couldn't imagine leaving a perfectly good flashlight, tools or a set of jumper cables behind, even if I had 10 of each already.

The good ol' El-Cheapo tool kits are great for taking care of those guys who always want to borrow your tools. Borrow a full set of junker-scavenged cheapster sockets- Ok, bring 'em back whenever, or never.... Borrow ONE of my good Snap-On sockets, and I will hunt you down if it's not back in five minutes

Har! This thread brings back an old memory for me.... Back in my university days I was living in residence on campus. One day the powers that be decided to do a "group change" all the light bulbs in the dorms-whether they worked or not, and they all were working. I was a budding scrapper at the time, too, being a farm boy always looking for stuff to keep things running.

Anyway, all of the old bulbs went in the trash cans and right behind them I picked up a shztload of them.

I didn't have a vehicle at the time so had to use "the dog" (Greyhound) to go home on the next long weekend. I travelled with a buddy and carried two cases--a briefcase that I had filled with the old light bulbs and another with my clothes. Anyway, we both lived in a town 40 miles off the main highway so the dog dropped us off at a little burg where we were going to meet my dad. We got there but had to wait for dad at about 2AM on a Friday night in a jerkwater burg where they rolled the sidewalks up at 8pm.

Well, the cops rolled up to us while we were standing there waiting. Asked us what we were doing, we gave the explanation. Asked me what I had in my bags...unh oh...."unnnnhhhh, light bulbs, ossifer". Holy shzt, how am I gonna explain this one? "Can I have a look?" "sure, go ahead"....he opened my bag, saw a gazillion light bulbs, all carefully wrapped in newspaper. My buddy was glaring at me, expecting the next thing to be asked to get into the car. The cop closed the case like he saw suitcases with lightbulbs in them every day, bid us a good evening, and drove off. My dad showed up about a minute later and we both jumped in and got the h*ll outa Dodge city before the cop changed his mind.

To this day I don't know why he never asked any more questions. Maybe the two of us looked like two geeky hicks too dumb to even know what wacky tabaccy was.

We used up every last light bulb over the next few years.

I'd recommend gathering the old light bulbs too, those new ones the gov't is requiring to replace them aren't worth much and don't last long. They also don't put out much heat, in case you use them to heat(or at least keep above freezing) the cellar, doghouse, wellhouse etc

I haven't had to buy power cords for any of the older power tools I buy with frayed wiring.

I have been hoarding some away too (just picked up some nice 5' power cords with plug for 220v (the schnazzy twist lok kind). I payed $5 for the two power distribution boxes, tore the wire out of them, took the brass and low grade boards out, and decided I might as well keep those plugs and leads. I can always scrap later (they weighed about 6# a piece. I think I'll get my money back from scrapping the rest.

I haven't bought any video games. That's a plus. I was getting bored, so I started doing this as a hobby. I haven't bought any projects either. I'm hoping to get through my garage and clean out so I can do some work on some other things before more stuff shows up hahaha.

I need more space.

In the bottom of the left hand corner is a thanks button. If you click it below someone's post, it will list your name. You can only do it if you are logged in. You will not see a thanks button under your name, but should be able to see it under other members posts.

There have been discussions about how it should be used. Some never use it, some use it all the time. I use it to show interest in what someone has to say. It does not mean I agree, sometimes it makes me think about my position (good thing), sometimes I give it because I think it took courage to post, and sometimes I paste it because they have a great idea or topic. If I do not post a thank you it does not mean I disagree or disapprove. In these cases I will post my opinion in the thread. Now you have to decide how you will use it. Good luck.

this past summer i ended up getting 2 cars for scrap for free that i ended up driving traded one off for 2 cars traded one of those cars off for my current scrap hauler (93 suburban) picked up 2 running speedboats with titles and trailers that im gonna be using this season. have not payed for a computer or laptop in about 5 years always have spare parts laying around for them to. and always someone wanting to trade me something i could use for something i was gonna scrap so that helps with the bottom line.

Yah, there is still no thanks button on my phone, but I'm over at the neighbor's house with the laptop, so I figured I'd go thanks crazy.

I noticed it right away but did not want to touch it. I will now, a naked person without teeth squatting over the kitty litter. Not the picture I wanted to see before dinner. And for the record, trash bags are considered condoms in this part of the country.
