Be careful out in the cold - I got some frostbit fingers last night

I was wearing gloves but the -13 degree wind chill cut through them like knives. Hubby called and told me how cold it was while I was driving around.

Woke up today with 4 finger tips red and sore as heck, like they were burned in a fire.

First time this ever happened to me, can't stress enough to dress for the weather best you can.

Scrapper, Scrap Yard Worker, Horse farm worker, Cooler Puller and just plain ''tired''

    yup frostbite is nooo fun

little trick to help combat frostbite. if you swing your arms in a circle it will force warmer blood down to your fingertips. it is only temporary but helps keep the cells from freezing.... i wouldn't suggest this method for cold toes though you might look a little silly

Trick of the trade - military surplus glove mitts with liners. They keep hands toasty warm and when you need your fingers, remove the glove mitts and wear the liners. You might also want to rotate your arms like a windmill every once in while to increase circulation and put your hands in your arm pits or crouch (warmest part of the body) once in a while to warm them up. I backpack into mountain lakes on snow shoes to ice fish and learned how to warm the body without artificial means. We spend one or two nights in the mountains with only backpacking tents and the warmest sleeping bags made. Movement is the key to warmth in cold weather.

I've never heard of the windmill thing. My truck was warm but, I guess my gloves just weren't the greatest for last nights cold. It only took seconds for them to start screaming.

You can get frostbite in seconds by handling metal in cold weather without gloves or mitts. Had this happen a couple of times moving my saws back into my van - luckily nothing serious, but I could feel and see the burns.

I got the frostbite on both feet, 22 years ago. To this day when it's really cold, IT HURTS! I've got two toes on my right foot and three on my left foot that are affected and I'll have to live with for the rest of my life! I now fully understand the saying "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". Be careful in the cold friends, it sneaks up!
