Residual Business

Saw an ad today from a guy wanting to give away two 3,000 bushel grain bins so I called him and told him my purpose. He said he actually had three (a smaller one) and they were mine for the taking. I accepted and then said I haul farm iron on shares so he came up with some kind of gooseneck trailer and a tank full of iron. Have to meet with him soon and look it over. At least that stuff won't be frozen down like I'm experiencing with alot lately.

Obvious lesson: A simple contact concerning one item can lead to more business !!

Oh yeah.....I listened to a local radio program last week and a man had a cookstove to give away. When I called, he also has a whole lot of farm machinery including a combine to send to salvage and he was glad I called. Uh....same lesson there.



Both of those contacts are in new areas for me so I can expect residual business in the vicinities. Just stay honest, pay promptly, clean up your mess and business booms.

Did a 3000 bushel bin last year. 2 torches made short work of the project.

Cutting a grain bin in half and laying it down makes a nice cutting shed to keep you out of the cold Nebraska wind. I do know how high a 3,000 bushel bin would be, but the one I have is tall enough for me to use my skid steer to move metal. Love your business plan. You will have people contacting you to finish the jobs other scrappers failed at. Good luck.

Gosh, I never thought about using the grainbin as a shed to work in, Patriot76. I guess you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. Thanks for the idea.

K here is chapter two from my above post. Bro in law was over seeing the bin tear down. He has me call our local scrap yard to get there biggest dumpster. I think it was a 50 yard tub. BIG ONE! Load it with the bin,metal from old corn crib, gates along with misc metal collected over many years. Now he is very efficient soul,as he loads tub he packs it with the backhoe. Can you guess where this is going? Yea no where! After topping off tub driver comes to retrieve loaded tub and couldn't load on there trailer. He goes back to town to get "heavier rig",returns but has no success! Ends up bringing us a 30 yard to pull material out to lighten 50 yard tub. They apologize up and down. I guess when I told them of our pile size they thought I was just kidding.

Kbob, I wish I had a backhoe at times but then I'd have to transport it and would need a bigger truck and a bigger trailer and a bigger debt and a bigger payment and, and.............and I guess my lot in life is to be humble. Right now I'm pickup shopping b/c mine just went south. O, not to be humble.
