Wire, that is.
Newbie scrapper (scrappette? is that the female version?)... just a hobby, but
WOW! Copper is SO beautiful when it comes out of the plastic casing. I only
did a couple of wires, and I'm sure there's more efficient ways out there, but
I was so stoked to gather my first strands of bright copper that I just had to share
with you guys.

Do you play music while you strip?
what kind of wire did you start with, and how are you stripping it?
Currently looking for a job in or related to scrap/recycling. Relocation is possible for the right offer.

It was some wire from a broken lamp. I just used a utility knife to peel off thin slices like a carrot and then
grabbed the copper and tried to carefully pull it out. Little tiny strands fell off but I swept them up and threw
them in the coffee can with the main piece.
I saw a video where someone had a piece of wood with a hole in it where wire could be pulled through as
a screw pierced the casing. That seemed more effective overall than what I did!

that video went so fast I can't tell what the actual mechanics were. where was the nail? was there a nail? what was the thingy he did in the beginning with wrapping it around the block? he didnt move the wire.
why dont they show HOW they build these/

New, wrapping the wire around the block simply helps it straighten out the kinks, so the razor blade doesn't hit as many bumps, stripping the insulation better.

sorry, but welding a razor blade to angle iron is dumb. It softens the blade depending on how much heat you put into it... and non replaceable :P

I use an off the shelf stripper from Coppermine Tools aka the "Red Doughnut" or aka "Little Red". I paid around $70 and have used it to strip about 500lbs of #14 through #2. Needless to say it was a good investment, and it works great. I tried drilling holes in 2x4's but quickly moved on to a more efficient engineered machine. Anyone else use the Coppermine stripper, you like it?
