Working a full time job and scrapping kinda sucks

Anybody else run into this issue? Since I work a full time job the only time I have to take stuff in to the scrap yard is on Saturday mornings, and I have a bunch of stuff backed up, so I have to take the shred in so I do not get my property looking like a complete mess. That being said my non ferrous is piling up (500 lbs of #2 insulated, 400 lbs brass, 900 lbs copper, etc) as I am putting all my time to the scrap yard in getting rid of shred. It is kinda a good problem to have as when I can take it in I will get an awesome payday, but at the same time I feel like it is funds I cannot access as it is just sitting there in non-spendable form. I am starting to get my property cleared out of all of the dishwashers I had accumulated, so that is a plus, but I am running out of room to store the non-ferrous. A good problem to have, but also a pain. I really wish scrap yards were open more than just half a day on Saturdays, sure would help me out a lot. Oh well, when I retire in a few years then I will not have this issue. Just had to vent some exasperation.

If you plan on taking it all in on one big load, your scrap yard of choice might be willing to do a special dropoff around closing time if you ask nicely.

I'm in the same boat. I try to either only bring in a few types at a time, usually alternating between shred and aluminum, or shred and copper, and can usually do a full trip well within my one hour lunch.

I wish I had your problem?! No seriously though, good job and perhaps a friend or family member (trusted!) could take it in?

I have the same issue, except I wish I had all that potential cash lying around. I can only load up on Saturdays 'cause I have to drive my kids most days of the week. Maybe take a vacation day and get paid twice for it?

And Focker, if our jobs paid enough, we wouldn't be scrapping on the side!

I quit my "Day Job"...Problem solved and no looking back.

A lot of people that work at these scrap yards work open to close 6 days a week so when noon time rolls around on Saturday they are pretty happy but too tired to do anything.

That would seriously cut into profits, its hard enough work already to have to start giving some away.

Don't forget when you do get ready to take it in, before you unload, try to negotiate a better price because of the larger than normal quantity.

If your just using a truck maybe look at adding a small utility trailer on to haul more at once. I'm very thankful that I have a yard that's open half day on Saturday. But I'm close enough that I could go 3 or 4 times in that half day, and have.

I have the same problem. My trailer is currently fully loaded and I am starting an eye sore on the side of my garage. I am hoping for a day off sometime soon, cause my scrap yards are only open mon-fri. I wish the scrap yards would be open at least 1 saturday a month. Hiring someone would be a waste of money.
I would love to quit my job and do it full time, But the benefits for my family keep my at work.

    I'd have to agree here.

I run a computer company, and scrap part time as well. It seems like I'm going 100mph, but at the end of the day, I had a good day because I'm doing what I like to do.

Actually I already have a 16ft flatbed trailer that I use. Perfect for hauling 24 dishwashers to the yard.

It is not really as easy as that. I leave home about 6 a.m. and do not get home until about 6:30 p.m. I am able to put in some time processing what I have in the evenings and loading my flatbed. The scrap yard is open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. In that 3 1/2 hours I can usually get two loads taken in. Bottom line is, it is what it is and I just deal with it the best I can. Just wish the yard was open later on Saturdays or possibly on Sundays, but it is their business and I am not going to presume to tell them how to run their business.

Let a trusted person cash in pre loads . Keep tickets for a % payout to drop a load. Or rent a storage unit. I do if no room. Gotta pay to play. Expenses. Don't scrooge yourself.

Option 2 .order a can. A roll off . Drop load and cash in all 1 day. You get haggle room.
