Cash Is Literally In the Garbage Waiting to be Picked Up

Hey Fellas/Gals, while doing my Thursday morning run, I came across a dishwasher at the start of my route. While loading the dishwasher, I spotted a lamp just hanging out on the top of a trash can. I pride myself as a picky scrapper where I don't dig through garbage, but if it's sitting on top, then that's ok. Anyhow, as I reach for the lamp, I spotted a $10 sticking out from a Dunkin donuts coffee cup. I smiled to myself on blessings and kept on moving. The moral of the story, just be happy with what you're doing, if not, just think about being in that mad dash folks do twice a day to and from their 9 to 5. God bless their souls but I never want to get back in that rat race again. What cool stuff have you ever came across while out scrapping?

I love finding stuff in the garbage and near dumpsters. I can feel like a good doobie for helping keep things out of landfills, I can enjoy breaking things down, and I can make cash doing it. I also try to repurpose everything I can get my hands on, if possible.

Finding actual money is a great thing too! Once I found two hundred dollar bills in a parking lot. And I find change all the time. I'm never too proud to pick up a penny.

    You had a good day!

Well then, I am an EXCELLENT doobie.

Honestly, it's just a slang term for good person in some circles.

DWJ is the best doobie, though, for returning the $300. I didn't even think of doing that with my $200. It was a Walmart parking lot, if that matters, way out on the end.

Think about how sad it would be to be in such a hurry that you don't notice a $10 bill in the coffee cup you're about to throw away.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

A little off the orig. topic but about two years ago I was doing a job at a very large hospital complex. I was at the loading dock when a mortician rolled a recently deceased person down the ramp and loaded him up to go to, I'm guessing, a funeral home. I walked down the ramp and found three $100 dollar bills right where the dead guy was loaded into a minivan for transport. I thought it must've fallen out of the dead guy's belongings, who'd ever know, MY LUCKY DAY! Well, it took me about two minutes of thinking to realize this was not a plausible scenario. There were seven different general contractors working in this complex at the time and I went to every superintendent to tell them that I had found a certain amount of money in certain bills that would be easily recognizable by anyone who lost it. Four hours later I got a call from the supt. from the project I was working on, the guy who lost the money had been working on the same project with me all day long. I returned it to him, he was extremely greatful. Turns out that cash he dropped was to pay a Veterinarian because his dog had the Parvo. I could've walked away with $300, but I felt like I earned a lot more in the Karma dept.

I found a Wagner paint sprayer , which i sold for 250.00 the same day. Also have found many gun cabinets, and other odd/end furniture which ive sold on Facebook sale sites. I think the coolest thing i have found would be the vintage lawn mower thing that i have, ( one of the ones that just roll a cylindrical blade) had the blades on it sharpened, i used it over the summer to do small lawns for older folks, who enjoy the nostalgic effects of seeing things they had/used as a kid. I also know a guy that found a dead body while alley cruising... lol

    Doobie..funny.

Coolest thing I found doing this..not having to be a part of the rat race. At all. I'm happiest with being my own boss. Nothing is cooler to me then every day when I get up, an loving what I do. Not dreading going into work.

one of the definitions for doobie..from urban dictionary. It made me laugh. "a wonderous smoking utensil in which happiness is acheived through the inhalation of a mysterious and mystical white cloud. " lol.

and one more definition from the same place...An object of great importance to an individual. Can be any prized possesion. Comes from the hebrew word for teddy bear.

An the third one.."A name for a person from or who used to live in Dubai. I love urban dictionary, to funny.

    Urban Dictionary: doobie

Then you could be "Keeper Of The Sacred Weed Box" instead of "Keeper Of The Travelling Cooler"!

This was Jesse Pinkman's weed box on the show Breaking Bad. It was auctioned off after the final episode. I bid on it early... $200... (why not!) but it sold for... get this... $5600!!

lol...I somehow don't thing that tagline would last long. I'm in support doesn't mean I partake. I'm in the camp, if I can drink..folks of age can have a toke. Same rules, same laws. Don't be an idiot an drive. It's the meth addicts, crack fiends, etc I worry about. All I got to worry about from a stoner is him stealing my Doritos. ha ha!

Monty.... While that is a commonly known definition, Jilly is using another less known definition. A "good doobie" is a person doing a good deed.

Found a Bobby Rahal signed racing helmet one night, sold it the next day for $250, a Gretsch guitar that needed work, sold it the next day for $50, 3 old suitcases that were used as a 60's survival kit with old meds, dehydrated food, first aid kit, 7 rolls of silver dimes with 2 $50 bills wrapped around them sold the suitcases for $10 each and kept the rest, 13 patio chairs from the 50's sold 5 for $600 kept 8, a 60's print of a 30's painting that I kept but found one like it that sold at auction in England for $20K. I loved the rich people where I used to live.

Brandon, I'd be doing the happy dance if I found those survival suitcases! Cool idea, and I love stacking silver. I found two silver dimes in an abandoned lot once and was pretty excited over that.

Where I was they had crappy yard sales because they threw all the good stuff away, I went to a yard sale around the corner from the house one day spent like $5, went back that evening after the sale was over and whatever didn't sell was in the garbage even stuff that wasn't out for the sale. Wound up loading the car and selling the stuff from the garbage for more than I got for the stuff that I bought. Most people there don't have yard sales, when they do its always crap that I would never buy and they want retail prices for. I started my scrapping after going out on garbage night looking for antiques to fill my space in an antique store. I saw so much scrap metal that I started picking that up too. I had a little ranger pickup that I made more every month in scrap and antiques than what I paid for the truck.

Wow, me finding $10 dollars is just the tip of the ice in comparison to you guys. Just last week I picked two speaker boxes from side of the road, unscrewed the speakers and got $30 for them at the pawn shop.
