I scrap I have learned a true skill .
self taught and this forum has been real information
of use

I started a Job with a trash company 4 days a week about 30 hrs weekly
I drive a small trash truck and pick up about 2500 lbs trash per day
drive lifting climbing in truck to arrange bags to stay are the basic tasks
then removal .

My recent years scrapping conditioned me that the work at hand is second nature now
dumpster diving to retrieve metal is harder then trash bags,
the smell maggots no effect as
thats always been the summer deal to retrieve some dumpster items
I will be able to also retrieve TV's as I find them and cherry pick scrap I feel is worth keeping
day ends at 3:00 yard closes @ 6:30 so I still scrap



I see what I did now for the last 4 or 5 years was key I understand weight and scales
& most important I know what can be scrapped

I now can sell my plastic from Vacs TV's for $25 a ton wile not much
finally it's not trash . I found a recycle plant that buys from the trash company
so I can also drop off as it's on the way to yard

Some thing is up in my life , like a key it seems to fit.

I had made friends with owner 4 years ago and he saw in me a familiarity
so we would talk scrap as he also has scrap.
I would help him as a friend back then

Times have been tough I find scrap and have inventory ,
but always felt bad to deplete all my scrap for life's expenses
I feel if possible scrap money should also be used to invest in your future .

OK so I go to his home last week to pick my daughter up ( his kids friendly with mine )
and I say how do , he looks down and out and says looking for a driver .
I ask what a driver does and pay .
I said I'd like to give it a try , he agreed

I did fine, he asked me do I feel Charley horse from lifting
I thought to my self HA the memories of thousands of TVs lugged in to my van
AC - fridges - 3000 pound boilers . I am 165 pounds so I am not a brute force guy But I do it
some how i'll get a 400 pound copy machine in . or a fridge out of a dumpster

What Charley horse ? I simply said Na I'm OK - Ha

This week doing the trash work - -
I found - 1 AL radiator - A car jump booster -
2 brass faucets . 5 pounds Lead - miscellaneous metal = 100 pounds & sunbeam mixer
I also could take the 5 cent cans and bottles if i want But first need see if any other workers are going for it
I don't want to step on toes . Yet the scrap from my truck is mine to keep ,those are my toes .

It was a section of drain pipe I figure a home owner did work and tossed out old lead pipe

Scrapping for the amt of years so far puts me in a mature mind set . My mind set 3 years ago
I would of wanted to open many bags and my focus would not of properly been on job at hand
Now I can focus & realize the scrap will come or it wont & I'll find it some place any way.

This is a work out , I feel it . Drive plenty also .
Naturally I am finding things , but like what do I need constantly say I found some copper today and this and that .
But bet your bottom dollar - - I am finding just what you would expect at the curb .
My instincts from five years hunting is like magic with the bags .

But today is worth mentioning , on one of my routs is a company that must do machine work .
I found = to 70 gallons / as in two bags of Aluminum shavings
there is some plastic in the mix as they use some kinda plastic rod to clean machining blades .
I found about 50 pounds but might be 60 .

Also I see lots of scrap I need approach some farmers on . It's hard work and some smell naturally but I like the job .
I need organize a way to start capturing the AL cans that are over whelming
