    My instincts sensed something

In the beginning of my scrapping endeavors I caught on fast enough but there was so much to learn . Under standing weight the feel of weight in your hands, your truck .
The yard I went to was not computerized in the beginning . you could not even see a scale . All receipts were hand written .
You just put your trust in the people behind the desk .So the green horns like me had no feel of weight all you did was put trust in the system .
& tired to never fight the scale people .
About 2 years ago it came out that some major scam went down .Two of the scale workers , would short weight customers, then a shill buddy
pulled up at days end with a load But his ticket had all the weight numbers on his ticket . Then 2 of the counter people would split the moneys with the Shill , apparently been going on a long time . Once the owner found out thats when the whole billing and weighing became computerized .

Well turns out the 2 counter workers now work at another yard & I ran into them . They used to be very friendly this time they look like they saw a ghost
they looked awkward did not even say hello really.
Then today it hit why so cold and embarrassed looking awkward . I was probably one of there victims
I Could not tell back then if I had 1000 or 800 NOPE !
that yard had 200 cars if not more per day .

I am pissed now I see they took money from my kids mouths . I loaded some kick ass weight and day after day by weeks end a loss of $100 I bet if not more . JERKS !

Paybacks are a b****. Go back to the owner of the first yard and tell him his ex-employees are working for the competition. Then ask him if he will up your price on future loads because of being short on previous loads. If he is not willing to compensate you tell him you are taking your loads to the competition. Then ask the yard manager of the second yard to ride with you to weigh at an independent scale, drop him off, weigh at the yard, then pick him up to reweigh to show how his employees are ripping him off. Since they got away with it once, they are probably doing the same thing again. If this is the case, ask both yards if they are willing to prosecute, and if not you will. Make sure you have pictures at both scales and scale receipts. Small claims court would make you the hero of all local scrappers. Make sure you contact the media. Great PR.

I started noticing that my weights didn't add up and started going 2 people in the truck one of us would pull on the scale and the other would stand in the scale house door and yell the weight to the other person, did the same thing on the way out. Never came up lite again.

The yard the people work at now can't pull it off , you can see the scale .
I see why the owner did not do much more then fire them
a class action suite from scrappers was close .

The deal is simple it happened and it's done & I am not the only victim.
If I was to rock the boat I would be banned , Oh yes they would .

The other yard owner would not take a drive with me for all the tea in china .

You know what , I have a load and going tomorrow , thats all.

That is why I bought one of those Detecto brand scales you see in doctors offices. That way I can weigh before going in and will know if there is an issue or not.

One option is go to a scale at a gravel pit or find a Cat scale in your area before you hit the scrap yard.

Scale fee here is between 8 and 10 bucks depending on where you go.

Nobody at a scrap yard can argue with a certified weight ticket.

I'd rather spend an extra 10 bucks and get a fair weight than get ripped off.
