    Finally! Biggest load this year!

Sheeeesh, you'd think the cold would not stop ppl putting scrap out lol!

However, last night, I was originally going to SKIP the first 2 towns of the normal 4 town Monday night scrap run just to save gas because previous two months didn't yield much.

Dang good thing I didn't. I don't know how I got all this home in my truck in one load but I had to make 2 runs to the scrap yard to take it for turn in which made even less sense lol.

In the back of my truck I had (these were the largest items):

    1 dryer
    1 projection tv
    7 tube tvs
1 of the largest Christmas trees I've ever seen, had to be over 100 lbs easy!
    4 metal chairs (deck style)
    9 sweepers
    1 carpet steam cleaner
    2 large office chairs
    2 bikes
2(!!) basket ball hoops (with poles and back plates)
1 sink (with counter top attached)
    2 heaters
    1 computer tower
1 nice wood end table for my son
hundreds (its seemed lol) small misc items thrown in around all that large stuff.

I turned in 1245 lbs of just steel alone. With the weight of the 7 tube tvs not counted nor the projection tv which I didn't get to yet nor the garbage plastic, glass, etc materials from the breakdown, I was carrying pretty dang heavy! I don't know how much the tube tvs weight but they were ranged from monitor size to medium large size.

Hubby drove the last town to give me a break and I had to put monitors on the floor, one in the middle between us on the seat, I had electronics on the dash board and stuff in my lap. my feet were scrunched up in front of me on the seat and I couldn't get out of the truck to pick anything else up I was so stuffed in there.

I had strapped layer on top of strapped layer on top of strapped layer with some bungy corded items as well.

I didn't lose one item off the truck and it was piled so high by the time we got to the last town (my own) hubby said lets go offload or quit. I said nope, we still have straps left and we can use the tailgate if need be for a large item with the board in front blocking the other stuff from falling out since we were so close to our house and could drive slowly, and if we go home to offload someone else will get the stuff. Wouldn't you know it, when we backed in another scrapped drove by.

We started out at 6pm and finished at 3:34 in the morning.

My son got up this morning, saw the garage and outside overflowing and asked if we were driving him to work today. Uh YEAH!! do you not see all this scrap that needs taken in????!!!!! You are NOT driving my truck today son!!

That was one of those nights where I needed higher sides or my trailer which is parked at my dads house.

Nice but. Not to be mean just a guide. A nice load is 3,000 to 5,000 lbs or more . All below 2,000 lbs is just a load.

Your pile should reflect cool packing not throw on and go. In my scraper opinion. Keep on scraping .1scrap .

It's all relative. What's a big load to one isn't worth the time to the next guy.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Now I realize that folks sing and tell stories about you around the campfire at night but guys and gals (as in Newattitude's case) don't need all that fanfare to get thru a night of shopping at Curbco.

It's not the size of the load, it's the joy on the scrapper's face... and the quality of the load.

Would you rather have a truck bed full of computer towers, or old TVs?

Hey, if it helps to put food on the table, cash in the pockets, or, in my case, pay off some student loans, more power to you!

Actually, I just paid of one of mine, $5,500 at 10.25%. Glad that one is off my shoulders. That was costing me about $100/mo. by itself.

No need to come in here and try to cut the wind out of her sails. Your "opinion" is coming off pretty arrogant and petty. Obviously this was a big load for New if you bothered to read the title. Seems like you should have better things to do with your time then tearing other scrappers down in their own thread...

I would be happy with that load. I scrap on my way to and from work in a Chevy Cavalier. It takes time to build up a load and then I haul it in with the truck. My goals is to always take in $100 load - and that's usually only once a month. I keep trying to increase my efforts and hopefully someday I'll rejoice over a 3,000lb load.

Reading this thread and thinking about it reminded me of one day I was on my way to the scrap yard. About a block from it, I saw a guy headed that way and pushing one of those grocery carts. It was about half full of cans and junk that looked like he'd picked up along the way. I doubt he got more than $5 for the whole load, if they'd take the cart. BUT - that $5 may have been enough for him to get some breakfast so he could go out and find some more. The point is, that little bit was just as significant to him as my trailer load was to me.

Where'd you pick that happy horse pucky up? I never knew there was a scrapping ''tier.'' silly me.

Oh, and I also had a dehumidifier, a pretty good sized one so, add 9 (measly) lbs for the radiators as I call them too. Or did I get that wrong too?

Feel free to stay outta my threads and I'll return the favor lest I say something wrong there too.

my favorite thing is when people stare at you with a overflowing truck, like your a crazy just above homeless person (motorized shopping cart). then there is the ones that complain someway about you doing it, maybe even throw in something about school or better jobs and I know I should not for safety reasons but I like keeping a copy of my previous years tax return to shut them up lol .
so yes its a good load because your working hard and hopefully happily doing so, all while supporting your family. so congrats and soon spring/summer will be here and those loads will be everyday maybe 3 times a day lol
