Angle grinder 1 - thumb 0

Just a quick reminder, an angle grinder that cuts through steel can do a real number on a thumb.

Might I rephrase that to "Don't forget to use your brain, kids!"

Gloves only slow it down, they don't stop it. I have scars to prove it.

Thumbs are your most important tool when scrapping! Can't afford to loose them!

I do have a set of gloves with high tech protective modification - the sensitive areas are wrapped in multiple layers of duct tape. Gives a little added protection over just the leather. Unfortunately, they were in the truck a whole 10 feet away. "Lemme just get this last piece...aaaaaakkkkkkk!"

last time I did something similar, I went straight through some jersey gloves on a bench grinder down to the joint on my pointer finger. I pulled the glove off and saw white bone. That startled me a bit.

ouch. i touched my grinder yesterday while it was still spinning. thankfully i pulled away quickly enough to only sustain a slight burn. i really ought to put the guard back on that thing but then i couldnt use 6 inch wheels on a 4 and a half inch grinder lol

Not sure if it was to the bone, but it was on the top surface of the thumb below the joint. Not a lot of meat there. My first aid consists of letting it bleed (blood thinners really help the flush even though it looks like I'm auditioning for a slasher movie) then apply liberal duct tape.

Note to self - duct tape belongs on the glove, not on the skin.

My wife knows not to press the issue any more. She's a nurse. If I tell her you don't want to see it yet, she has come to believe me I'll peel off the tape and inspect the masterpiece over the weekend. Should be just fine by then.

Heh...been there just not with a grinder. Chisels....can bite. an I got the scars to prove it, best was the one that hit my thumb, an I look down an see bone. I'll give my wife credit, when I came upstairs to take care of it, she promptly called me an idiot, an proceded to clean it in the most painful way possible, all the while reminding me chisels are for the material I'm working with an not my hand.

I love being married. Ha ha!

Glad your ok tho, still got your thumb, an eventually the pride will recover. Duc tape an some glue, you'll be ok.

Been there too! One of those lessons you only need to learn once! A common factor in almost all accidents I studied/investigated in the Airline business and now my own business, is complacency. For the most part it comes from "We think" we know what we are doing, because we do it everyday. Complacency will get your attention and cost in a lot of ways. It happens to everyone!

Haha, thats exactly what i was told not to do

I'd say I'd get you all a batch of kevlar gloves, but at 80 bucks a pop for good ones...your on your own. lol.

my chisel keeps biting me, I just may have to find a pair..for cheaper..Ha ha!
