First Haul In Of The Year

Being a part-time scrapper it takes me a while to accumulate a truck load. I break everything down as far as I can, haul the steel in, and for now hoard the rest. This haul included 2 hot water heaters, a dryer, dishwasher, 5 small office file cabinets, gas grill, car hood, and lots of misc junk. I attached a few pictures. All in all it was a good trip 1200lbs for $132.00. I already have collected more toward my next load.

    Stay safe.

You've got wood sides like Me! And you're using the straps on the sides and bumpers like I've done before! I almost thought that was MY truck for a minute there! Lol!

Nice haul and thanks for the pics!

Thanks. Sideboards are a must with the short bed. They don't win any style points but can't be beat for functionality.

Ah, it's not who's sitting beside me, but what is riding from my rear view mirror.

Nice load. However, even as a part timer, you should be able to score more. Unless it's slim picking in your area. Have you tried Craigslist?

even with my full size bed I was just telling hubby last night, I don't know how I did it before I had my sides. Crazy.

Nice load! That is what I do. I separate the shred from the good and haul it off to make more room. Then once I get enough copper, brass, aluminum saved up I make a separate trip. The last non-ferrous trip I had was 230.00!!

You're correct - I should be able to score more. My goal this year is to double last year. My first load last year was on 4/13, first load this year 3/14 so exactly one month ahead. Plus this load was heavier. In the words of the great scholar Joe Dirt - "Ya gotta keep on keepin' on."

I always keep my non-ferrous until I can get at least $3.00 a pound for #2 copper. Matter of fact, I have never sold my #2 copper for less that $3.00 a pound in the last three years. But most of the time I carry in my aluminum with the steel because it just takes up so much room.

UPDATE - March Haul In Part Deux

Just a quick update - took my second haul in this weekend. Took in some radiators, aluminum and stainless. Trying to clean up some of the "stores" to make room for spring cleanup items. A couple of pictures and breakdown of the haul below:

Also I sold a gas grill that I picked up for better than scrap.

    Heater Cores - 3 lbs
    Aluminum - 175 lbs
    CU/AL Radiators - 35 lbs
    300 Stainless Steel - 9 lbs
    Window Screen - 2 lbs

Finished the month up pretty strong for me. Hopefully April will be even bigger!
