Silver Dinnerware. Plated Silver or Solid Silver?

I found an assortment of silverware and i am unsure as to whether or not its completely silver. Is there a way of telling? It wont stick to a magnet.

Plated or solid, what does this stuff go for? and what kind of place should i take it? cash for gold? pawn shop? scrapyard?

Good silver will have a hallmark or at least some sort of identifying mark. Do your research first if it does on value take anywhere besides a pawn shop for a fair market price.

Look for the marks, you can google for those. Real silver will have a marking(european), American will have mark, 925, or sterling on it.

    Oh look..I linked for you.

Online Encyclopedia of Silver Marks, Hallmarks & Makers' Marks

Guide to World Hallmarks I - Encyclopedia of Silver Marks, Hallmarks & Makers' Marks

Online Encyclopedia of Silver Marks, Hallmarks & Makers' Marks - Overview

British Sterling - English Hallmarks, Irish Hallmarks & Scottish Hallmarks

Don't like those...Google is your friend.

Hope it helps, I'll keep to myself who you should sell it. As always...YMMV

Real silver will be marked, like SirS said, you are looking for a mark that says sterling, 925, ster., or something to that effect. Some older pieces that were made from coins will say coin or 800. Now if you have European pieces you have to look for the hallmarks, little characters that when translated will tell you the maker, city it was made in and the year.
Things that are NOT silver are sometimes marked, A1, IS, nickel silver, german silver, anything that says silver.
My favorite site for looking up hallmarks is Online Encyclopedia of Silver Marks, Hallmarks & Makers' Marks .

As far as a place to take and sell, I would go to an antique store, they would come closer to paying you a fair price for it, so they can resell it.
