I know I'm not the only one who talks to my scrap...

Just got through breaking down an old green Bissell vacuum cleaner and it was a beast. Normally vacuum cleaners are a piece of cake for me, 2-3 minutes tops. This one, though, ate my lunch. Some things I said to it during the breakdown...

    "You little piss ant."
    "Really?"
    "Son of a biscuit!!"
And my personal favorite..."Don't make me get the sledgehammer."

I did eventually have to resort to the sledgehammer and when it was done I think we both felt better.

Let me know if I'm the only one who does this and if so, I might get help. If I'm not alone, however, I'd love to hear what some of you all say to your scrap from time to time.

When something is getting me aggravated, I say "I WILL WIN"."One way or another but I WILL win".
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

I was going to say the same thing about the pentium pro I found recently. I put it back in the cpu and took a picture of it and made it my avatar. I told my wife I was going to hang it on the wall in the bed room.

After seeing this thread, those of you that talk to your cpu's...I imagine this is the conversation you have before, an after....

Gollum "I'm coming for you my precious!"
Gollum "We wants it, we needs it. Must have the precious."
Gollum: "She's always hungry. She always needs to feed. She must eat. All she gets is nasty orcses"
Smeagol: "We told him to go away... and away he goes, Precious! Gone, gone, gone! Smeagol is free!"
Gollum: "So bright... so beautiful... ah, Precious."
Gollum: "Pretty little fly. Why does he cry? Caught in a web. Soon he'll be... eaten."
Gollum: "It came to me, my own, my love... my... preciousssss"

An far as talking to scrap...I use a variety of colorful words. An yes, I have the hammer ready. It's usually with me, along with the cooler.

I can neither admit, nor deny, that I may, or may not, talk, or not talk, to my scrap. I can admit, and won't deny, that to admit it publicly, is cause for concern. jus sayin

Maybe in the book. In the movie it's run, or flee. I forget which.

    Here you go.

"He says, "Fly, you fools!" Turning on the closed captions or subtitles reveals the line, which is also in the book. In older English, "fly" is an imperative version (meaning, when you're ordering someone to do something) of the word "flee". During the original theatrical release, Gandalf's line was modernized to "Run, you fools!" However, when the DVD was released, the line was changed to more faithfully reflect the novel. In both the movie and the book, it is "Fly, you fools."

It made me so happy he used the correct quote in the movie, that I cried. I love that line, and was afraid it wasn't going to be used precisely.

YES, I am a geek that way. Look at my Precious avatar.

It's only used right in the dvd copy, an not all are the same. In my copy it's "run, you fools.". Then again mine is from when it first came out in stores. I got it for free when I worked for Border's Books and Music.

Buncha Tolkien nitpickers. Of all the things missing from that movie, you all call out my quote! WTH!

I'll take my half credit for the quote, being as I was right...I didn't say which media form it came from! Ha ha!

NOw back to talking to your scrap.

Even in the theater when i saw it, they had the quote right. Maybe it was different in different places. Must have been?

That one quote was a big deal to me. Especially since a lot of other things, as you mentioned, were changed from the book...but don't get me started. I've read LOTR probably 85 times, since age 12. My old dog is named Frodo. I had a Lord of the Rings wedding, and our wedding bands are actually this exact ring.

I can be a tad obsessive about certain things.

I'm also addicted to recycling, and that led to hoarding scrap, and that led me here. I cannot physically walk past a piece of metal scrap on the ground without picking it up. I am like Smaug, I think. And yeah, I talk to my stuff a little.

And now I've admitted a whole bunch of embarrassing stuff to the interwebz.

When I am tearing something down or say working on a car or something. I just always remind the inanimate object that a Human made/built you. I being a human can destroy you.

The blurb I put in my other post, is from IMDB Jilly, if you want to read it. It didn't go into a whole lot of detail in regards to who got what version.

An let's be honest, most folks watching that movie here in the state's probably turned to their seat mate an said.."Why'd he tell them to fly? Their walking everywhere." An yes, I love the books, an the movies, while one of the best ever book to movie translations...still left out tons of good parts. I worked in a bookstore for four years...you know I love the books.

An it's ok to admit your inner nerd. We all have some, some of us just more open about it then others. Ha ha!

Sirscrapalot - More pew pew, less q q - No clue who started it, but it's here for my inner nerd gaming fans!

Too funny that's my go to phrase. There's not much a 5lb sledge wont solve. Scrap don't need to be pretty, just in pieces.

As for the original topic of this thread, when I DO talk to my scrap, it's generally something not fit to post on a family-friendly site like this, but it's often quite a bit more pointed than, "Filthy Hobbitses!!"
