It not the computer that is sought after but the processor. Pentium pros are the holy grail for scrappers. They are rare and getting rarer by the day.

    From http://www.chipsetc.com/gold-value-i...er-chips.html:

"The Intel Pentium Pro Processor has one of the highest gold contents of any mainstream CPU package from the 1990's to date due to its much larger package size, which contributes to an increased number of gold-plated pins and much larger gold-plated cap. The Pentium Pro also has two separate chips inside, so this doubles the amount of solid gold wire bonding that is usually found in a single chip CPU. Gold refining yields of the Pentium Pro have been reported to be as high as around one gram per CPU."

Edit: This is not accurate! Read the next two posts!

^^^ not true FL, yields are around.3 to .5 of a gram. That type of info is why the pp is so sought after and people buy them at wayyyy over what they are actually worth in gold content. I have 5 of them and hold them simply because they are collectable.

Hey BC, I was just going to post that!

    From cpu-world.com:

"The consensus yield on the Pentium Pros is actually more like 0.3 grams per CPU. Roughly speaking, it takes five PPros to make a pound in weight and probably 1.5g of gold by weight."

And: "The Pentium Pro lid / heat spreader is a tungsten copper alloy."

Agreed. I got three, sold one for $22.50 and was kind of disappointed. Just holding the other two.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

These processors seem to quite the find but if I remember right the 386 & 486 processors are worth more per lbs.
