    City Wide Cleanup

A local town (pop. 14,000) has an annual spring cleanup and any and all items are put on the curb where the public is invited to scavenge. I don't have to do this to add to my iron findings, but there are also many other items that add to my intrigue. My wife frowns on this action but she tolerated it today. I should have taken a trailer along as I bypassed 3 treadmills, a frig, a stove, numerous bed rails, a lawnmower and bicycles.

On the bright side we got a working paper shredder, christmas lights and bulbs, plywood for a shelf project in my shop, maybe 300 lbs of prepared and unprepared iron shred, a suitcase, deck chair cushions, a nice carrying case for my milwaukee cordless drill (had to modify it), and a working lawnmower. Also a 50 ft. extension cord from a lawnmower that someone left on a nonworking elec. mower and it was on the curb. I had to leave the mower as I had no room. Also about 10 lbs of insulated copper wire and the wife even jumped out and got a cute little metal pail and a throw rug. She's learning.....LOL !

Turned in over 8 tons from last years Spring Fling and that's not including the usable stuff. Wife loves to go too and I love her for that.

My city did away with large item pickups. People have to now make appointments with the city and pay 30 bucks and can only have a max of 6 items picked up at one time.

This is the first time I've heard of something like this - putting items to the curb for others to go through. Say there's a huge pile, wouldn't that clog up the streets?

    Congrats on YOUR scores!

in my area, you put it on the curbs, in 3 piles. Normal junk, lawn debris, an construction debris.

No mess I've ever seen other then a pile after someone not very considerate has gone through it.

All in all I enjoy it when it happens twice a year. Spring an fall.

This might be a smart solution for most wife's. With Yunkman, he would have been better off with her hitchhiking. She would have gotten a trailer, tractor, and half of the town to haul the load home. This perspective was provided by a Goggle Search.

Here in okla city big trash day is pretty much everyday. They do certain areas of town each week and they keep a updated color coded map online. Its a matter of timing though nothing lasts long once its put out

I was just about to say that Matty! My wife would never come with me, would frown at me stopping with her in the car (but I would anyway) to get something, but never has an issue with keeping something out of the yard if SHE likes it!

    City Wide Cleanup

all the towns out here have what we call "junk" days in the spring. over the last couple days we have gone to one town and have had 6 trailers full not to mention the bed of the truck. all in all its going to be a good pay day. this weekend the town near me starts there's and that one always produces. I love it!

This whole thread got me thinking about what clean-up days might be going on soon around my area. Soooooo...

Spent my whole lunch break (and then some ) printing out all of the local city and town announcements for spring cleanup and recycling days. I have a feeling the scrapyard is going to get sick of seeing my face in the next few weeks!

    City Wide Cleanup

went to check out another town about 20 minutes from me and there were three local scrapers already circling the streets. so nothing today but it gave me time to start breaking down stuff and I have well over 50 Lbs of cords and I'm still not done. its amazing I got that much because there were people just cutting wires.

We have a 2 week spring clean up which is just two 20' roll offs and a roll off for tires every year at city hall...Being that I'm the only scrapper in my small town of 430 population (one square mile is what my town is), I get alot of scrap from those.

We used to have once a month heavy trash day, but got new trash company with new rules...

One 96 gal trash can gets picked up once a week and it must all fit in the can.
