My Dad has two F150's, one for farming and one for hunting. The 03 is the hunting truck and the 04 is the farming truck. They are the same body style. The 04 got rear ended and I've been looking for a replacement for him so I've seen a lot of these. The 04's that look like the 03's are called Heritage model. The 04's with the step up front door window are the New style. My Dad refuses to get the one with the step up because he likes to ride with his arm on the door with the window down.
I'm really surprised you got one of these with low mileage. That engine is the good one also and you should get a lot of use out of it. Dad's trucks have 185,000 and 275,000 miles on them.

Now it's time for a trailer or two. Can usually get a deal on 4x8 or similar size single axle. Would make hauling in 2 ton pretty easy.

Bought a brand new 2000 Chevy 1 ton Crew Long Bed for the const biz that was still the old body...they were a year late in changing the one ton. They kept going on and on that it was the "Classic Body Style"...I was like whatever, just give me the keys so I can get back to work.

Well, for every Chevy or Dodge down here ther are 5 Fords with less miles and in better condition. All the Dodges are crap. I know I'm gunna get crap for saying that!

Nice and congrats. I know the feeling. I started with a small toyota pickup and every job I went to the customers would say "you need a bigger truck". It was as if they thought I didnt realize that my truck was small and I needed something bigger. Well Im sure you have heard "you need a truck" and now you can say "I got one".

Which motor? 5.4L v8 triton? I have a '00 F150 7700package longbed....in this same color (well, by same color I mean it once looked like that on a car lot before I obtained it,), and if it does have the 5.4 v8, lemmetellya they're a $%$# to take out! I took my sweet time that spanned a night with penetrating oil on them....and I still had to baby them, because the last thing you want to do is snap one (or more) off in the head. Aside from that and changing the valve cover gasket, I've basically done nothing to mine....and it registers 237k now!
Anyways, awesome find!!!! Maybe someday it'll look like mine.j/k

How do you guys manage scrapping out of a 150? We use an F350 with a 14K gooseneck. What type of scrap are you guys hauling and how far?
Good choice on the Ford, but I would say $7000 for beater is kinda high! We paid $8,500 for a diesel.

I did a brief search and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the '04 still had issues with the spark plug removal. A quick call to the Ford dealer to get a quote on a spark plug change will tell you......just be sitting down when they answer you.
Gravitar, I know your truck hasn't hit the 100k milestone yet, but if you're handy with a wrench and are familiar with changing them, it can be done....with A BUNCH of patience. You will need a 9 or 12" extension for your socket to reach down to them and still have decent room to ratchet from the top. I used Kroil, and like I mentioned in my previous post, I let it set overnight. Those plugs only have like 4 to 5 rings if I recall and they're a 2 piece plug. So, even with the penetrating oil on it I was still super careful. Any resistance over what I though was normal, I stopped and put more oil on it and went to the next plug. Also, the moment you get a 1/8 to 1/4 turn, stop and reverse it back in before continuing to take it out......baby those suckers! Breaking one off will require a not so cheap extraction tool and hours of time. I don't mean to scare, but I guarantee the $300-$400 quote you get from the dealer will more.....and if that't not enough, if they break it off, your qoute goes up drastically.
I know this isn't an F150 forum and I know I've said nothing regarding scrapping.....but that is what you bought this for and I'm just looking out for a fellow scrapper.

I'm a part time scrapper, so I don't generally get involved in huge demos or industrial. However, I have loaded mine to the point where you would think the Beverly Hillbillies were coming to town. Even though mine is a 150, the 7700 package is rated just a few hundred lbs less than a 250. It has the larger brakes, 7 lugs and larger leaf springs like a 250 as well.

I'm pretty sure that that was only on the 4.6 and 5.4 V8. This one is a V6 so it doesn't have that problem. This one is a "heritage" model so it was made just before the new style came out. Trucks sell like hot cakes down here, and everyone wants a million bucks for their old one. So finding one that is reasonably priced and in good shape is hard. When you find one, you better grab it before someone else does. That happened at least 5 times to us while we were looking.
As for what type of material I haul with a 150, its mostly shred and appliances I pick off the curbs. Running a diesel while curb shopping would cost a ton.
