Not much to show that would get any "Oooh's and "Ahhh's" as of late.. I am alive though.
They are tearing the tar out of my road.. and with that sometimes I like to go wander down and see what I may find.. a little sprig of old tracer wire here.. a busted piece of old sewer pipe there.. the guys pick up and haul off all the big goodies.. but the walk is beneficial for me anyway. So they are getting to the point of laying asphalt.. the road bed has been done so I figure anything lying on top will just be covered with asphalt. Can't have that stuff go to waste right?
So last night I'm out with my wand magnet and I hit a pipe.. no stick.. I pull it up and I see what I thought was old dirty copper.. I thought "Whoot- Score" While trying to bang the dirt out of the hole I notice the whole thing is just slowly bending with each tap. I whip out the hose and wire brush and realize that this isn't copper.. It is a solid chunk of LEAD. Not sure why one end has a hole in it like a pipe- the rest of it is solid. Thought I would share. Only thing I can imagine this was- was a stick of Lead they would have used to melt and join the cast iron pipe over 100 years ago on the original infrastructure build. Weighs about 10 lbs! Not a huge monetary score.. but never seen something like this before!
