Funny you should ask, Sirscrapalot... I did nothing overtly scrappy today other than check in on a couple auctions I'm watching, though I did make a few notes on other goings-on...
I woke up this morning to the lovely and maniacal warblings of our local gray catbird (Dumetella carolinensus)- the first I've heard it (him?) this spring. I was growing a little concerned- we've had a catbird family nesting near our house every summer since moving in in 2008. I consider them something of a "good luck charm" for the family (for the lack of better words before my cup of coffee).
After watching a Three Stooges episode on Youtube with my kids this morning I whipped them into their soccer shoes and jerseys for their games at 11...
Being the first 80+ degree day of the year I once again discovered that every single pair of shorts I own somehow shrank slightly over the winter. I blame the dryness of the air.
I managed to fall off a trailer full of wood with a running chainsaw in one flailing hand and only managed to bruise my leg in the process. I will assuredly be a sore puppy in the morning, but I rejoice at remaining a quadruped, at least for the time being.
I got both kids started on carving their silver maple walking sticks this afternoon while de-barking my own osage orange shillelagh. It is only a prototype, of course, but it will kick a** nonetheless.
Beyond that, I had a lovely meal on the back porch, a glass or so of "value wine", edited some eBay listings to go live tomorrow and am now winding down. Overall, a lovely day- thanks for asking!
cheers,
tbg
End of my week is on Sat, and I take Sunday off usually. Load up to go to the scrap yard on Monday morning..still here though and it's 9PM. Did 8 PTACs, 10 microwaves, a minutemaid juice dispenser/cooler, 2 lawnmowers, 25 pc towers, and asst other small stuff. Still have 6 more microwaves, and then it's off to home and bed!
Ha, you make shillelagh's TBG? That's awesome. An yes I know what one is from a game I played, an was a GM for many moons ago. Crazy how things like you remember years later. An the kids making their own walking sticks is pretty cool to.
For those curious this is a shillelagh.
Ryan enjoy your Sunday, I know I will be. It's picking up here on the sandbar with tourists which my long weeks turn into short ones, an longer days during the week. Can't get much done other then break downs on a weekend once the season starts in full. Crazy traffic, so unless it's a yard sale/thrift store, I don't do pick ups unless it's really awesome. Just how we roll on the sandbar.
Just means I get to work harder m-f. I'd say the Majority of my clients are glad for this, as their usually slammed on weekends here. It's arrival an departure day(s). Which means everyone is busy from the HVAC guys to the home improvement guys. Only folks able to relax on a weekend besides me is the construction guys. Ha.
A good remainder of the weekend to all!
Sirscrapalot - Even after Tuesday, the calendar says 'WTF'. - Stolen from the internet.
Sir - Thanks you too! I think I'll follow your lead and bust out the grill after hitting up the farmer's market!
Glad I can be some what of a inspiration! lol.
Enjoy a beverage or two of your flavor while at it!
Sirscrapalot - Is going to try his hand at stuffed onions on the grill tomorrow.
You ever done potatoes? A couple weeks ago, I sliced some into rounds, and oiled both sides. Kind of like home fries. Really good, and only using the grill is very convenient!
Yup, grilled, an over a campfire. Amazing what you can cook with some tinfoil, cold beverages, an good company.
Foil packet dinners are awesome...now if I just had somewhere to go camp nearby.
The stuffed onions will be a new thing. I've done grilled whole onions but never a stuffed one. Found a recipie for it somewhere online while browsing. Sounded good. Heh. Basically a stuffed pepper but an onion instead.
I try to do everything on the grill when I cook out, but the wife always finds something to make inside. lol. She helps me a lot when I grill. She keeps me supplied with beverages, an the cooler company. Though I did see a cool thing today..a grill/cooler combo at a thrift store!
I was tempted but it had to heavy of a price tag for being used an it's condition.
Sirscrapalot - Go go gadget Cooler!
Sold some Aluminum today and for the first time split the 6061 and 6063, 1956 was right 6063 paid a nickel more, so will be splitting that into two buckets from now on. I'll do the grill thing tomorrow night Kabobs on the Q!
This was without the foil, just cook 'em like burger patties. Just watch the heat!
That grill/cooler combo needs a motor, and a standing platform on the side.
I only use foil with campfires, no grate. lol. Sorry for the confusion I got all excited, grill, an campfires!
An yea..it was neat looking, but more a 'cool looking' toy. My fatboy charcoal webber works just fine. An I like if it catches on fire, my beer is safe.
Sirscrapalot - I think we can safely say...
Or...
You're welcome.
LOL
All good, it's kind of on topic!
Lest I can't be blamed for it this time. all you buddy!
Sirscrapalot - Just drove the get away car, didn't rob the bank.
Had to work Saturday, kinda warm-ish mid-80s. Made a coupla good finds with these two ceiling fans... oh, and by the way... A CEDAR CHEST!
Then home to upload these, and off to the thrift shop. Saw the receiving guys laugh when they saw me pulling in the parking lot... Cuz there was so dang much stuff!
Loaded the Nissan, and had to go home & get the F150 for the rest. Took til dark-thirty just to get it all inprocessed... You know, cut cords, vary basic breakdown/trash removal. Doing the detailed break down today in the garage while watching it rain.
Oh, and one of the missus' coworkers sent a box home with her... numerous PCI cards and about 40 pinless P4s... only 5 of which are listed on PTS' premium listing, for a total of $5.50. But better than a sharp stick in the eye.
Out of clutter, find simplicity. --Albert Einstein
Is the chest a "Lane"?
It appears to be, but can't confirm. This stamp is on the inside, and "The Standard Red Cedar Chest Company" was supposedly the company's original name, but I can't find the date code that is supposed to be on the bottom of the chest. The feet are missing, too. It's somewhat used: a couple water stains, a cup ring ( ) and some crayola spots here & there. Nothing too bad, though, other than the darn cup ring.
Either way, It's mine, not for resale.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, a Ridgeway Model 550 clock. It's in need of refurbishing, but I know of a clock shop that might cut a deal on it. I was so excited about the chest I forgot the clock.
So, to answer the query of the thread: My weekend's going pretty darn well. And from the smells emanating from my kitchen, where the missus is preparing dinner, it's fixin' to get even better!
I know the old ones have model and serial numbers "burned stamped" on the bottom and are dated by reversing serial numbers. A 946121 serial number would be a December16th 1949.
