    Cool Spring Scrap Load *Photos*

I finally was able to reach my clients to get some scrap metal. Had to borrow a buddy's truck since mine was still going through the paper work. Scored a canopy with a missing canopy.. meaning nothing but steel, awning pieces that were heavy, and a washer. On the way someone was throwing away some arch thing made of metal, so i grabbed that too. Cashed in $42.86 for everything which weighed in at 400 lbs steel light.

Thought i'd show you guys the scrap pile that we have to throw our stuff at. I almost cried when i saw about 15 lawnmowers sitting there. Maybe ill go back and buy em off the scrap place.

Started to rain soon after, other than what a great day!

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yesterday i stopped to check out the Youngstown, OH flea market to see if i could find any bargains. Not alot of cast metal at a cheap price, but i scored 3 lawnmowers for $60. Got 2/3 running.. hopefully i can get the commercial lawn boy running! Thought you guys would enjoy checking out the mowers. Might scrap the one, not sure though.

Great job! I LOVE LOVE LOVE picking up mowers that people put on the curb. Usually some fresh gas, oil, maybe a carb clean is all thats needed. Folks just rather throw good money away than learn to fix what they have. I feel a drive to own things for as long as I can, and to keep them serviceable. You don't have to recycle what you keep in good shape. Everyone should have to take a basic maintenance course in high school. Like Home Economics for keeping things around.

That is retarded profit. Does the person who bought them realize that they could have bought new ones for a little more? I mean you can buy a new mower for 200$ w/ 1 yr. warranty.

Good for you, that would not fly up here. And those 2 stroke lawnmowers are a giant PAIN.

but they scream ! If you have to someone why they want a 2 stroke, your just not getting it. Dam the EPA and ca for all but killing the stroke and the awesome blue smoke they puffed.

Got any tips for fixing a pull starter? The guy said he pulled it one day and the rope just came right out so he got a new one.

Not to hijack, but it might be good for others too. If you DAGS I'm sure you could find a good YouTube video in how to fix one. Usually you take off the housing, prewind the spool, attach the rope (para cord works great), and let it pull the rope tight. Reattach the housing and you're done. Like I said, check out some vids, be careful of the spring, and good luck.

i think it is cool how folks in different parts of the country value things differently....around here 2 cycle lawn mowers are actually in high demand...everyone lives on a darn hillside, the 4 stroke mowers just dont last like the 2 cycle ones...

i can burn up a brand new 4 stroke mower in 1 grass cutting season around my place...i can buy a revived lawnboy from someone like pickerbenny and it will last several years usually...i generally get em for around 40 to 80 dollars at the flea market...

We'll I took off the starter and all the plastic inside is broke so if you have one of these pm me I also just picked this up like 15 minutes ago I think it's seized unless there is some special gear preventing me from pulling the string

You asked the right person for fixing a pull starter! I made a youtube video on how to fix one. I also have multiple spares lying around so one might fit that! My video teaches you how to dismantle and put back together a pull starter.

I love mowers. Getting about that season to start finding them around here too.

Like UrbanMining said, people just don't maintain stuff, usually they're only a few years old and have nothing really major wrong with them that some carb cleaner or a new gasket won't fix.

Still running a 23+ year old Honda here, the thing is a tank. Wish I would find a couple of those at the curb.

Looks to be a gear driven on the rear axle, might have a control built into the handle. Don't know if that's stopping it or not, grab the blade (with gloves on) and give it a jerk and see if the engine will move. Pulling the blade has more power to move the motor than the pull starter.

Even if it is seized I know methods to unseize it.
