You have to have scrapping manners!

On Saturday I sad an ad on Craigslist for some scrap metal. It included a lawnmower, a beat up patio set and a backpack leaf blower. Which I believe I can get running. She also had 4 pallets there. I left them neater then they were when I got there. She ended up coming out. And I gave her some cards and few precise and nice words. On the same day me and my wife saw a guy going through a pile around the corner. I drove by that pile again just a lil while ago. I decided to check it out anyways and saw around 4 monitors and TVs all beat up. Glass and plastic everywhere. But then I uncovered 2 computers! Which is awesome. But that guy gives us a bad name. Don't go through these piles and make them look worse. It gives us a bad name! Stop it! Sorry for the long story/rant.

When I finish a job, I ALWAYS sweep up, or rake, whatever the case may be. Even if the guys there tell me " you don't have to do that" I still do. Just like camping or hiking, leave it better than when you came.

I always neaten up after taking scrap. One time, my son and I picked up an organ. well, it was dark in the driveway and we didn't see a slab of glass on the top. that thing slid off and made a mess. I went directly to the dollar store and bought a dustpan and broom and went back and cleaned it up. I had a box in the back of my truck I put the broken glass in. Nobody ever came out when it happened so they never heard it and I could have just left it but I told my son I don't operate that way, we gotta go back and clean it up.

Our small town passed a ordinance against anyone curb shopping.Had someone break a tv,glass everywhere. Now you can't pick ANYTHING up on the curb. You have to have permission and stuff has to be sitting on property owners side.

Kbob, my mom and I once saw a HUGE tube tv smashed all over the yard and street from someone grabbing the copper, it was rediculous. made me so mad, its that kind of scrapper that gives all of us a bad name. I felt so bad for the property owner having to clean that all up out of the yard.

Yea. I know it's probably no one on this forum that acts like that. They are out there though. Next time I see it. I am gonna say something to the person. Of course nicely.

We are (for the most part) honest hard working people, trying to make an honest living. Its the shifty people that give us a bad name.

personally i think if you made a mess clean it up! the way i was raised growing up you made a mess and left it. you heard about it from mom and dad.
mom or dad would come out with a broom and say you made the mess you can clean it up. told me can make as big of a mess you want. all they ask is when i was done is to clean it up.

not necessarily. there are just folks that just don't care and it has nothing to do with drugs. We can't blame it on just only that. JMO.

    Good point

I don't curb pick much anymore; but when I do or when I did, I always picked up if I knocked something over. You did the right thing by sweeping up, its just common(perhaps uncommon) decency. For those of you who; run a business or even curb pick-impression is everything. You have to take the good with the bad.

Mistakes happen-its how you deal with them that will separate you from the rest of the pack. As long as you have the mindset of respect for your surroundings and people you'll be fine.

Talk about minding manners if you need a chuckle check out "Mind Your Manners With Billy Quan" on Youtube.

I reccomend "Yard Sale Of Fury"

The sketches come from a former Seattle based sketch comedy show called Almost Live!

Bill Nye the Science Guy made his start on this show in the late 1980's.

The show was on from 1984 to 1999-it has come back on but is now called "The 206"

ya to help with this i build 4 fenced in places wood fences 7ft high which is scrap wood too lol to make the trash area look nice and neat and the owners and I only have the keys and I will move them out on trash day. this way I get a lot of extra goodies and their neighbors can put a few things with their stuff as well. we do not have a lot of tv breakers ect. maybe drunk students here and there but it allows me to do more for people and myself at the same time. the city is weird though cause I get the idea of permits to build but it takes hair pulling at times to make it happen and its on people property not like in the street.
still even if I can get 2 a year done its an awesome thing
