Maybe this will help...and a week of reading before posting again. The test will be your next ticket from your yard or Ewaste Buyer.

wow i hate to think of what you have been giving to the yard but live and loss thousands and learn $150 a day is easy if your willing to work for it I try and make at least $200 by noon so I can enjoy the rest of the day even snow is better with money in my pocket lol but yes you can sell other things too like copper on ebay or even shipping to other yards that will cause even an extra 20clb profit is good but mostly not worth it untill prices go back up but everything almost has a market to sell your stuff

computer and keyboard worth 10 bucks. assuming computer worked and sold on craigs list? keyboard has mylar takes a ba zillion to make a lb. computer, what is the break down for a p4 short or flat tower, can sell working power supply for 5 to 10 bucks on classified or craigs list but if I pay 2 dollars for a small p4 im lucky to make 1 to 2 dollars tops, unless as I said powersupply sold.

First to earn $150 per day , You need a trailer for the PT . OR use the PT in suicide mode , meaning the whole car no matter what , naturally it will be destroyed in looks fast. But with a trailer and good fuel economy you can cover territory . I don't think finding $150 per day is imposable but you will have OFF days after all your looking
to earn from Luck of the find .
naturally a trailer to carry nasty scrap & a trailer for auto's , could open doors to $150 per day . Flyer's to get customers & networking to any source of scrap is the only way . Learn the the daily prices of all scrap so you can buy scrap on the spot to sell at profit.

All said and done it's about weight and whats needed to take to yard. A PT can make $150 per day out of back seat if your selling Copper , Brass .Batteries
Short steel will bust up suspension in time . mix not really enough room . AL is possible if it's pots and pans

But to JUST find on the street $150 , day in and day out , Copper , Brass , Batteries UNLIKELY

If you are only curb shopping, 150.00 per day is going to be pretty tough. You have to make the scrap come to you.

150 bucks can be done. But it requires more work and more education on your part. You and your father need to study this site. You will learn alot. The potential is there. You just gotta make it happen!

Re-sell parts, re-sell units FOR parts, and re-purpose (or sell to those that do). Then make a scrap run of the leftovers. Repeat.

At this yard I get $10/100LB which I think is $200 per ton.........I also get .18/lb on power supplies with wires cut off so you can do the math..........At another yard here locally they are paying 11.75/100lb for shred but they don't buy the power supplies so I guess it averages out...........Metal prices are usually pretty fair in this area as Knoxville and Tennessee are fairly centrally located and the stuff can be shipped out via trucks or rail fairly easily (I'm just guessing here)

Consider me a newbie, wanting to expound on an earlier point. Let's say the OP was dead set, has to make $150/day. I know some guys really deal more in arbitrage than in pure scrapping. That is, buying scrap cheap, and selling it for a higher price. Example, I buy a junk car for $250, scrap it for $400. I have my $150/day. Anybody willing to give up a little info concerning your arbitrage strategies for this guy?

All of us have been screwed once or twice but that s just part of the learning process.....as you go you will learn to be more efficient. dont just put everything in shred, that is for the uneducated scrappers.....spend some time on here, good luck!!!

I don't know how old you are but you can not start out at the top in this or any other business. You have to start out at the bottom and slowly work your way up. break everything down and learn the different metals and what's worth breaking down and what's not. You will never make 150.00 per day useing a PT crouser, you need at least a trailer or a truck. Shop around to different scrap yards for the best prices. Some yards will pay more for some things and less on others. I have been doing this for 7 years and I'm still learning. I use 4 different yards for my scrap and have one local buyer for e-waste. Check out Ewasted in the buyers section, he is located in Ohio and is not that far from you. Ship him the more valuable items, shipping should not be that much. Also try to find an e-waste buyer close to you that you could drive to. Like everybody else said read as much as you can and learn the different things that are in a computer that worth more than steel. Just remember steel is one of the cheapest things to sell. Good luck and don't give up, keep pushing forward and keep learning you just might reach your goal of 150.00 per day.

The more you have, the more you can bargain with. Gotta have money to make money, but you also have to keep money to make money. Remember that.

What do you mean "let them fly"

I "assume" he means: let it fly out the back of the truck onto the shred pile rather than spend the extra time required to get the motor out. All of have to choose between breaking things down to separate metals or selling it as shred or dirty. Like others have said either break down computers or sell them to those who will never dump them on the shred pile. Mike

That's what I thought he meant but don't you feel a bit guilty throwing an item that probably has more plastic than metal into the metal scrap pile? I do.
