I'm not Olddude (not for another 40 years.. ha!) but..this might help, lists the castle laws state by state.

Castle Doctrine from State to State

Basically the right to defend your home, or so as I understand it. Stand your ground if I remember right is..you don't need to be at home to have it be justified, just feel threatened. That's my short an dirty take on it, I know it's more complicated then all that(or not?) but I'm a scrapper not a lawyer.

And here's the kicker, after I let him take the part he needed, he told me he had had scrappers pull into his drive and take bags of cans from him. then he noticed they broke his door to get into his garage and take stuff. Apparently he has a lot of stuff and he stayed home one day to catch them. he called the police and they were caught. So, he was upset about that yet proceeded to pull into my drive and do almost the same thing, he was of a mindset that, I have no doubt if I wasn't home he'd have taken the part anyways. He intimidated the lady across the street who gave it to me and myself as well. And yet here he was upset over the scrap being taken off his property so he never thought maybe its not all scrappers and he could see I'm just working hard at this and not take an attitude with me, maybe adjust his approach? I guess he was just tired of being burned by scrappers, I don't know.

Hubby told him, keep us in mind if you ever have scrap and thats when he told me about all his stuff and he was going to turn it in himself. Lol, I didn't make a future contact here but, I also didn't cause trouble about it so I feel good about that. It was just the oddest thing to have happen to me.

People who take scrap from other peoples yard without permission are thieves. I'm tired of people calling them scrappers, it gives the rest of us bad names.

I googled the Castle Law, it basically states that anyone being threatened on or in their own property becomes an "officer of the law" with the ability to use "defensive force" to protect themselves.

Have to agree, No matter where you go for scrap ask permission, often when you do that, it can lead to more business. A honest friendly approach has often lead me to the peoples work place to get more good stuff, as well many times they have offered more scrap that have had sitting in the garage for years.
