    Great buy the other day...

Rumor goes that JC Pennies is closing out department stores. I get a call from a construction company owner out in Pensacola, Florida and he wants to know if I would be interested in this big hunk of a computer. I said send pics and he sends these first three. Turns out its a 1974 Western Electric Rolm server. I was like wow at all the paperwork that came with it. Every single receipt you can think of it had.

The next few pictures are when I got it home.

This sucker had 256k memory! And the memory controller! I had never seen anything that old! What a new experience right now...Anybody ever seen one of these before or know its value? Western Electric is the original Bell company. I don't know if that would make a difference. Never had any experience with Western Electric before...

Think $125 was too much? And should I keep as is to sell or scrap it apart all the way to the pins since its aged?

    Hey CCRcameron,
I think you can answer this question by yourself Will you take it appart and sell it for scrap value?

I am definitely very curious! I want to take it apart and take a lot of pictures. I already donated the only memory, memory controller, and the silver clock card to the local college electronics course I took. :-) Cant scrap the only 256k memory I've ever seen. I want others to see it too! its basically in a museum of parts I've been giving to them for a year now. They use it to teach the history of electronics in the very beginning of the class and I hope it helps someone.

$125 was probably worth the price of admission even if you don't make much!!!

I was looking to buy for $.25/lb. Ended up being $.43/lb. Next time, it wont be so much.

What do you mean by price of admission?

I do finally get what was meant by the price of admission...it went right over my head. lol.....Im sad about something I missed while taking this apart.

I didn't know about the value of caps! I tossed many lbs of silver caps away into my steel pile....
