Listen to this one, last year around this time before christmas, I had a guy call me from one of my craigslist ads that was a telecommunications guy for all the surrounding prisons in the area. He wanted to get 15 of my crappiest machines with windows xp loaded on them cause they were gonna be loaded with a program to turn the prisons internet on and off (now as im typing this the reason kind of sounds like a bs reason, cause why would you need a machine to turn internet on and off, wouldn't you want to keep the internet on at all times lol??) . I told him $100 bucks each, he said okay. He asked me if he could get a discount, me not wanting to do the math for a discount I tried to say nope and he said okay thats fine. Well, I get to work loading windows XP on to these machines, Well I told him by the new year last year I'd have them ready, well I ran in to some problems, work and school and all that crap, I was a tad bit late on getting them done. Well I call the guy, no answer, I get pissed.. I seriously start calling the guy 5 times or more a day, well finally the one day he picked up, (probably sick of me calling all the time. ) I ask him hey I have the computers ready for ya. He's like " I'm not interested anymore" and hung up. Well lets just say I called him back and left him the nastiest message I ever said to someone. I also called the one local prison he did work for and I told them all about it and how he screws over kids in high school.. Life lesson for me, anything like this, I'm always getting a down payment first.

Not really a dumb or funny one, well now I laugh at my stupidity but thats besides the point lol. I did end up scrapping those machines though.

Here in Oz we have a free site similar to what I imagine CL is called Gumtree. It's actually owned by Fleabay and I think they purposefully keep it somewhat disorganised and hard to navigate so people go pay Fleabays fee.

Lately I have tried to sell a few cars on there. I have moved a few but some just seem to bring morons and imbeciles out of the woodwork.
The last one was a very nice and fully optioned Subaru Liberty Turbo. Very stock, got it off an old guy who had blown the motor and didn't have the readies to repair it. I bought it at a good price, replaced the cooked heads and crook bearings and Crankshaft and it was a real nice car, quiet and well equipped car. Put it on gum tree for a very reasonable price to get rid of it simply because I could sell it cheap and still make good $$ out of it.

    Bugger me!
I must have had no less than 50 brainless idiots text me ( WTF is it people can't Ring anymore?) and the first and generally only thing they asked was if I would take $xxx less for the thing? Most were stupid offers and some would come at 2 am in the morning with a follow up the next day with them getting ****ty I hadn't responded like I owed it to them to waste my time. One guy Texted ( of course) then rang about 10 min later saying indignantly that I hadn't got back to him. I told him, I'm 50 not 15 and don't live my life with my phone constantly in one hand and the thing under the pillow or beside the bed. That put him in the back foot a bit and of course he made me a lowball offer. I said no thainks, I have had plenty of enquiries, I'll hold it for now but if you see the ad still there in a week RING me back and we'll talk.

Then he gets irratated and says he has to pay for a plane ticket from interstate and petrol to drive it back. I say nothing for a bit and then say " So WTF difference do you think that makes to me? I don't care if your coming from Timbucktoo and going Mars, not up to me to finace your travel arrangements. Guy seems taken aback and then snivels, Oh, well if you don't want to sell me your car then..... I said I already told you that moron and just hung up.
I get another text off the same guy with a different name attached but same number ( Einstein this guy) with a somewhat better offer. I just responded with " Already Sold" I then within second get a response saying he would have paid me full price and why didn't I let him know before I sold it?

Drugs. Just say no. If you don't, you'll end up like this space Cadet.

It just does my head in why the first thing these people ask over anything else is will you take some ridicilous amount less? They never ask about condition or anything else , just price. That firstly makes me 99% sure they are wankers and not genuine buyers and secondly, they make me wonder why they even waste their time asking if they have no intention of buying the thing.

I had one guy ring for another car recently who did seem to ask the right questions and was in a gut busting rush to come see the thing 2.5 weeks after I first listed it. He shows up in double quick time allright goes over the car throughly. He asks some snied questions and has a real " I'm better than you attirtude" which gets right up my nose. I'm irratated more than a bit but laugh it off cause I want to sell the thing although as he goes on with his upstaart attitude I'm starting to look for the opportunity to tell him to forget about it.

He makes some other remark about the car and then says he'll take it now and is Cash OK? I said it's the only thing that's OK. The guy says Indignantly " Yeah thought it might be". I look and say well I do have a cretit card facility for my business I can bring out for you but if you want to use that, it will cost you all the bank fees and you can't have the car for 10 days till I know your card has cleared and isn't dodgy." That calms him down a bit.

I go in get the rego papers and tell the Mrs the snot nosed upstart is going to take the car for the asking price. I tell her if he hadn[t I would have sent him packing with his Holier than thou attitude.
My wife has comes out and being a Cashier in a business that handles major money, she says she'll the count the cash while I'm filling in the paper work. He hands her the cash, she looks at it and says to me, How much did you sell it for? I tell her and she says well I can see theres not enough here! It's a mixture of denominations folded but she isn't head cashier where she is for nothing and sees the shortfall straight off by looking at the bundle.
He looks at me and says he " Only" has 3K less than what I'm asking and thats close enough?

I'm sure my jaw hit the ground. For a minute I literally didn't think I heard right! I looked at my wife and she must have seen my stunned look and just held her hand up and said " Just take it easy, it's OK, I'll handle it. " She gives the money back to the guy and says "You either give me the missing $3k or I suggest you leave now" and points to the gate. I Look at my wife and ask Did he just say he's $3k short but didn't mention that till now? She's saying its ok and again pointing out the yard and saying to the guy Go, now, just go. I look at him and say I advise you run because you have two seconds and then I'm coming after you to teach you some manners your arrogant *&%##!.

You can call me a lot of names and throw a lot of abuse at me and it's water off a ducks back but if you really want to get under my skin and take me isntantly to the end of my temper, that's a really good way to insult me and get there!

Some years ago I had 2 old mercs. I used to get an average of about 3 people a month just knocking on the door asking if I wanted to sell them. They were Old and not in good nick at all but it was like they were Gold plated rollers or something. One got really rusty and the motor went on the other. I pulled the good engine out of the rusty one then my wife decided she had enough of the Mercs and wanted something else. The cars sat up the back of the neighbours driveway where she let me keep them and some guys came a knocking wanting to buy them. They wanted to know how much I wanted for them and I asked what they were prepared to offer but typicaly they wouldn't give a figure and even more predictably than sunrise, when I said $500 for the pair they gasped in shock and horror...... And Immeadieatly offered me an insulting figure. I looked at the older ringleader and said, If you are going to insult me or take me for an idiot, pi$$ off now. He agin looked all shocked and apologised and came back with another lowball. I said if you want to leave your name and number, I'm going to put them on fleabay and if I don't get the $500 I'll ring you and we'll see what we can work out.

You always know when people are yanking your chain because they point out everything thats wrong with the cars but hang around talking. This guy just kept coming back with lowball offers untill I got the ****s and said to forget about it, $500 or nothing and don't waste my time. I started walking off with the guy still throwing numbers and telling me that was all he had etc. I got to the front step and he said ok then $500. I said Cash money and don't have a cent less. Yeah yeah, OK, he'll come back with the money and pick the cars up tomorrow. He wanted to leave a deposit which I declined. I said cash in full in 24 hours or I'll sell them to the next person that comes along with the money. Ok.

So he wants to give me his name and number and a deposit still which I refuse and hands me back the paper with his details and says " are you sure you won't take $450?" at this point I loose it and clearly scare the fool.
He comes back the next day, 2 hours earlier than we arrange that I would be home from work and takes one car and my daughter rings me telling me they are loading the other one on the trailer. She said she already asked them for the money but they said they are going to bring it back. Pigs arse.
Shes on the phone to me and spots my neighbour coming home from work and rushes up to him and tells him whats going on and he comes down and confronts the guys. Luckily hes no fool and tells them, you're not leaving without I have the cash. They try to argue but he's like me and not blessed with the best of tempers either so they pay up and leave in a hurry. My daughter said she really thought he was going to belt one of them.

I went up and thanked him when I got home and he was quite jovial about it.
He said it was his pleasure to put some scumbags and BS artists in their place.

People are just without any moral standards or honour these days. Clearly these dropkicks were intending to steal the cars by taking them without payment. I don't know what good it would have done them, the guy gave me a genuine land line number and I went past and saw one of the cars in the driveway so I would have found them. Why they told my Daughter and neighbour they would bring the money back when they had it on them when push came to shove only amounts to one thing... They were planing to steal them.

Dealing with people these days is a nightmare. It seems everyone is out to rip you off or screw you over and I wouldn't trust anyone. Especialy the ones that get indignant and say " Don't you trust me?"
    **** straight I don't.

I had a guy call me to pick up a crt right after I tried changing my ad to "willing to pay for larger loads or repeat customers". He wanted to know what I would pay for his 32" Sony. I reluctantly told him $5 (I get paid for the tube, remember) he got all po'd and told me someone else offered $20, it still works. I told him great, call that guy back and sell it to him! What's worse? It was on the second story of his house and he wanted me to remover it with no help from him! Ha! I bet he still has it...

I've got a pretty good Craigslist story.

I had one of my semi trailers for sale, had a guy email me & said he wanted to come look at it to see if its what he wants so I said come on up. Now this guy lives 4 hours from me & an hour after he left his place he calls & said his brother lives 30 minutes from me & if it'd be OK if he came & looked at it too (why he didn't just send his brother to look at it in the first place & then call him & tell him what he thought is beyond me) so I said yes. So this guys brother looks at it & said its what there looking for & leaves, then the guy shows up to look at it & he showed up in his semi so I thought "this guy must be pretty serious". He looks at it & says he'll take it & hands me a personal check, I said I need cash or cashiers check. He says have your bank call my bank & transfer the money & I said maybe. This is 3pm on a Friday afternoon & my bank said they could do the transfer electronically but being a Friday afternoon the money might not be in my account til Monday morning, I told this joker that & said I won't do it, I told him I either need cash in hand or need to know the moneys in my account before the trailer leaves. He gets kinda pissy with me & I told him if he'make his personal check out for $500 as a deposit I'd give him a receipt & he could come back Monday with a cashiers check & get the trailer then. He said he couldn't do that cause the personal check he wanted to pay with isn't even his, I thought WTF?? He stood around my shop studdering & stammering around trying to let me let him take the trailer & I finally got pissed & said " **** it, the trailers no lo get for sale so get out of my shop & have a nice day". So he leaves & trys calling, I just let it ring. Then he sends me a text saying If he can take the trailer today I can keep the title til that check that's not even his clears, I never responded. He tried calling a few more times but eventually gave up.

It was a scam if I ever saw one.

Sounds like they wanted a trailer awful bad. I would have gotten the plates info off of the truck and had the cops run it to see if the rig was stolen...

I called the local sheriff & gave him the plate number, guys name & cell phone number but never heard anything back so who knows.

    I have another craigslist story,
I buy & sell pallets on craigslist & had some lady with an odd name email me wanting pallets so I told her to come on out & pick them up anytime. Now before she showed up I ran her name thru whitepages.com & it said she was from Lafayette, IN & thought what the hell would somebody from Indiana need pallets for in South Dakota. So the lady shows up on a saturday afternoon, not sure what nationality she was but she could barely speak English, her boyfriend was black & didn't speak any English & they had a little boy that was maybe 2 years old with them. They were driving a beat up chevy half ton pickup & sure enough it had Indiana plates. Anyways, I loaded 10 pallets in the back of there pickup & they gave me the $60 in cash & then they tried to tie them down with some black rubber straps & I said that's not gonna hold so I gave them two of my small ratchet straps & had to strap them down for them, they offered to pay me for the straps but I said don't worry (I got the pallets for free so I can afford to lose a couple bucks on some straps) about it because as nice as these people were the whole thing just seemed odd & I wanted them off my yard pronto. I mean it was a smooth business transaction, they were nice people & they paid in cash, but couldn't figure out why these people from Indiana were in South Dakota & needed 10 pallets. I wrote the plate number of this vehicle down too, just incase.

Hmmmm...you're on I-90, northern IN is on I-90, straight shot hard day's drive away. Maybe they were Ethiopian or similar former LSS refugees that still have family & friends in Sioux Falls area and were back to have a big party where they roast some sheep & goats on a bonfire and somehow have learned they like using pallets?? Who knows for sure except them. Life is stranger than fiction sometimes...

What does he care what a guy does with it or how he makes his money as long as he gets his 1,230 bucks. Sounds like a good ad to post to robbers to appear at where ever they meet. Maybe that's what he wants...

Saw a guy who says he has an addiction for fixing bicycles. He didn't care how bad they were beat up or however cheap brand they were, he didn't want the bikes to end up with scrappers. Called scrappers "creepy" in the first paragraph and "dirty" in the last. Couldn't tell if he was doing some of his statements half in jest or if he meant it all. Why would scrapping be "creepy"???

I have a bike frame on Kijiji, plus some miscellaneous parts on there. Guy emails me about the frame, saying "I see you have enough parts in your ad to make a bike, interested in trading it?" I say sure what you got. He lists off some stuff I might be interested in, I say I'm interested, and he asks, "Is the bike complete?" uhm no can you not see from the pictures I posted none of the parts were together? He even said in the first email that he seen there were enough parts to put a bike together, then says "Sorry, I thought it was a whole bike, I'm not interested" deadbeats of craigslist/kijiji

Then, on another bike, I got an email that said this: "Hello, I want to buy your bike. Please send me your phone number" Nothing else. Seemed like an phone number harvester, so I decided I would rather keep the bike a bit longer than potentially having my phone number given to more telemarketers.

The asbestos ad was removed before I got a chance to see it :/

Recently there was someone who posted an ad not too far away from me saying he had lost his job and had a few bags of construction debris that he wanted someone to take for free. Another ad I saw not too long ago was someone asking $200 for 2 cast iron radiators because they claimed you could recycle them for $300-400 each.

If we wanna make a thread about odd or downright crazy people we've met personally, I could fill the whole thread with story's there's tons of them around my neighborhood.

How did I meet this guy? He wanted all the lead he could get as well as a few other items that were about the same speed as the blast protection helmet.

When I first met him he came to my yard and noticed that I had drop cords running all around the area we were in. He told me that I had to watch what I said as "they" can listen in on you through drop cords and extension cords. That guy was way out there, and he had a wife and a couple young kids that viewed him as their king. He was harmless enough, didn't like guns much as he said he had seen enough use of them. I was told that he wasn't a mean drunk or such. I never saw him angry, he would always whisper like a mouse and move slowly and then speed up and slow down as it messed up "their" tracking devices. I could go on and on,lol. Last I heard he and his family moved out west to some sort of hippy commune.

I kid you not. This world is filled with a interesting assortment of people. I'm proof of that.
In the 80's a lady came into the car dealer I worked at and had her fancy wire spoke hob caps replaced with plain one because "there radioactive and they are tracking me by satellite"

I had a sale that gave me a chuckle the other day...

I had a Snap-On drill and impact driver with a charger and I was asking $30 on CL. I got a text asking if I would take $20 and I ignored it. An hour or so later, I get a text from the guy asking if I would take $25 and I tell him yes. He tells me he will meet me on University Parkway and Lockwood Ridge. I told him they were not there, they were on Sawyer Ct. He tells me that he cannot travel. So, I tell him I will do the deal for $40. I get a note back where he says I was only asking $30 and we already made a deal for $25. I tell him it is $25 on Sawyer Ct, on UP & LWR it is $40. I wait a few minutes and get a text asking if I will do $35. Why, yes I will. See you in a bit.
