I see "warning posts" quite a bit.. not to this level of detail.. but there are folks out there who are posting warnings to others.

I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!

Definitely keep posting the ads. I would never spend that kind of money on an old POS like that but my point was for every stupid offer there is someone willing to pony up for something they want, no matter how ridiculous it is.

I see your Dimension 2400, and raise you this similar Dell Dimension:
Dell Dimension 2003 Computer with Keyboard and Mouse

I'd never pay $125 for one. It's worth about $12.50 - a $15 charge to dispose of the CRT.

I value this PC at -$2.50

Came into a few fancy grow light ballasts a while back and listed them on CL. Perfectly legal to have, use, and sell them around here because they can be used for all kinds of legal gardens. Met with a guy to sell them and he offered to trade me "product" about 15 times instead of cash. I don't smoke and hate the stuff myself so I politely declined and kept asking for the agreed upon amount. Finally got my money and got out of there. Because of his actions, dress, and demeanor I'm pretty sure he was an undercover cop and I'm pretty sure my local police department bought my dinner that day!

That reminds me of a story. The Vice Cops setup a sting operation at a Nice Hotel downtown offering 'Massages' on Craigslist and they had quite a business. One guy comes in and actually wanted just a massage nothing else. They told him to get the H#% out of there! Nothing wrong with selling lighting equipment but I probably would have asked Are you an undercover Police Officer? and they have to respond or leave the deal.

No need to ask since I legally obtained and had the right to sell the ballasts, and in the end he paid for them! If I'm ever concerned though, for sure I will ask...

This is unfortunately not true. Cops are allowed to lie...

    Have 2 Stories for tonight:
    1. Have an Engine Stand listed at a mere $35.. Guy says "Will you take $20?" Before I can reply he says "Would save me on my gas" (at the time of this posting Gas here is down to $2.50/gal) I say "NO" He replies back and says "Will you meet me at Walmart?" Seriously chuckle-head?

    2. Guy calls me yesterday and is interested in a couple things after I tell him other stuff I have. He is so excited he is going to bring his boss too for the parts washer and frame straightener. He says he is heading back to work and he will call me when they are on their way so I can give him an address- guy never shows. I send a text today and say "Were you still interested in looking at this stuff?" He says "Yup.. I'm getting off work in a few minutes and I'll be on my way" That was at 4:15.. No showed me TWICE!

The only reason I even sent a follow-up text to D-bag #2 was he was looking at a really pricey piece of equipment. But Shame on me for being burnt 2X!!!!

I had something posted and I guy e-mailed that he was interested. Had some out of region nickname or such (Tex or something--nothing wrong with that but not a lots "Tex"s in South Dakota). He had given me a number so I called. Interrupted his lunch or something. I got about 4 words out and he said he had to go and would get back to me. Never did...

So freaking true. I have a perfectly working, basically BRAND NEW mini fridge I've been trying to sell and I'm about ready to scrap it. I'm not at all exaggerating when I say that FIVE people have no-showed on me or taken up a good amount of my time via email (enough that I tell others I won't take their offer) and then drop off the face of the earth.

If you're gonna back out, at least say something. I'd rather get an honest "just don't want it" message than waste my time waiting for you when you know full well you're not going to show up.

    dalegribble-
I just sold a mini-fridge about 2 months ago. Do this:
    1. Look on CL for all the mini-fridges in your area
    2. Undercut the price by $5 bucks

Unbelievably- that $5 difference- a guy drove to get mine over the dude that was $5 higher- AND he told me so!

    Good Luck!

One of the special blessings of Craig's List is that about 60% of the folks that use it are losers. No shows are a regular benefit of using this particular resource. For this reason, I have a few policies that I follow religiously. I don't hold anything. First come, first served. If someone is on the way and another person calls and can make it sooner, they win. I will call the person on the way to save them a trip if possible, but otherwise you will be waiting for phantoms. I also do not deliver. Nothing is worse than driving across town only to have someone tell you it is the wrong color. Finally, I never pull the ad until I have cash in hand and I only take cash.

I had a situation recently on a truck I was selling. Guy called, made an appt to see it the following day. More often than not when ppl make appts farther out than a few hours, they flake out.

So later in the day I had another call, told them I had someone that was planning on coming out.

Oh, okay. Well if he doesn't show up, let me know.

    Will do.

Person calls back 5 minutes later, insisting on seeing it before the other person. Claiming they would pay full asking price and blah blah.

We set a time for them to come out. No show. No calls. Nothing. I tried calling to see when they were coming. Phone was disconnected.

Amazingly enough, first guy ended up buying it. Lowballed me, but I still turned an okay profit.

Another idiot I encountered a few weeks ago. Had a camp trailer listed. No title. Came from an estate cleanout. Don't know if any of the equipment works.

Guy comes out to look at it, first thing he asks "so, no title"?

Uhhm correct. At least he read that it had no title, but why repeat it? To see if I was just yanking your chain and oh, here's the title?

So he looks the trailer over, then leaves without saying another word.

    Oh, okay thanks.

Another guy comes out, spends a fair amount of time looking it over, says it's what he needs, and really wants it. He makes me an offer. I counter. He accepted, said he would be back the next day with cash.

    No call, no show, nothing.

Many times I've wanted to call them back and ask why they're so flaky, but I know I won't get anywhere. People are just absolutely worthless.

Got an email from yet another idiot, asking if anything in the trailer works.

I am tempted to add a FAQ edit to my ads, but I know they won't read that either. Just like the morons that don't bother to read a flyer on a vehicle, and instead zoom right to the #, call, and ask everything that is listed on the flyer.

This is why most of the stuff I get I end up scrapping. I can't deal with idiots.

I was all set to start cutting up a step van I have. I hate to do it because the body is in really good shape, (blown engine) but so far I've gotten low ballers who pretend to know what scrap prices are, or just idiots in general. I have it listed for less than scrap price, just to move it and it still won't go. Did get someone today that seems interested. Said he was out the door and on the way. Took him 1 1/2 hours longer than it should have but he made it. He is checking on an engine. We'll see in a few days if he follows through.

I'm in a rambling mood. CL is broken.

    lol

    Ya'll crack me up.

I deal with CL quite a bit an while I get some flakes, for the most part it's smooth sailing. Then again I'm not in a highly populated area surrounded by more morons then you can shake a stick at, like some of you.

    My rules for CL:

    1. I'll haggle, I'll trade, an I'll barter. Just don't insult me.
    2. I put all the pertinent info in the ad.
    3. I put the price in the ad.
    4. I operate on a first come first serve deal. You show up, you get it.
    5. I don' waste time with people in emails. Your either coming for it, or not. I don't bother with answering 50 million questions. The info you need is in the ad. Don't like it, go elsewhere.
    6. I don't waste time on the phone. If you start hemming an hawing I hang up an go about my day. Time is money.
    7. I don't tolerate fools. I get the feeling your wasting my time, we're done. It is what is.

I do other things but hell, I ain't telling you all of my secrets. To some of you I may be rude, but guess what? It works, an I don't deal with a bunch of morons. I've worked retail, I've dealt with the general public when their out shopping. Let me tell you..CL is a breeze. LOL. I don't need a filter, I treat people as I want to be treated an if you act the **** fool I'll tell you so an go about my day an find another buyer. I resell some of this stuff cause I like extra money, but I'll scrap it in a minute if I decide it's no longer worth my time.

My way works for me. Most of the time all goes well. Sometimes it doesn't an I have to walk away from a deal. Such is the game.

Good luck an less annoying idiots for you all.

Had some Fireplace Grates to sell last week so I look to see what my competition is selling them for...find one for $35 and it states that it's worth that in scrap. Must weigh about 400 pounds!

Digital Gangster took over Craigslist last night and that is why it's all jacked up.

I found this ad funny today. He had it posted on the "free" site but he's determined to still get something out of the unit (pay him $10 to help load). Advice to this guy scrap out the unit yourself and sell the parts. I wonder if anyone will go out into the country and pay him ten bucks for it (looks like a newer unit, wonder how they screwed it up so quickly??...).

Can you please advise if you still have this available? Does it work? I am looking for a cheap alternative to buying Halloween costumes but need a sewing machine, Will this get the job done?

Them: Well if you can't bring it to me my kids will go without costumes this year.

Hey that's the exact model/style of the one I just got done scrapping out last week lol. Thing ways a ton(because of the concrete ring in it). Doesn't take much for the things to stop working, Lowes mishooked up this lady's washer not once but twice resulting in a leak and water everywhere.
