huge steel price drop down to 4.2c

I knew that steel was going to drop a bit and my local yard is not the best priced but from $0.085 to 0.042 is huge. I take a lot of goodies to a different yard for prices but steel is one thing that makes my day pocket cash, which my wallet cried a bit on the way out the gates today.
did anyone else have a huge hit, gold took a dive today but that always swings but never really imagined myself wanting to save up steel before now at least the good heavy weight things. I am glad I only took in 1 load just over 500lbs so not to big of loss but still what a shocker.
things like this is why I am glad for the site as I have learned over the years to really make everything count. so all the dvrs I did over the holiday and the drinking lol will make for a good weeks payday though almost 65lbs of boards and still 92 hard drives to go which i will be glad to hand over to my employee to take apart. maybe a few ebay sales but only 40gb 20gb ones so not a flying out the door sales lol.

Only went down by $6 a GT for me for tin. I don't usually have short steel to bring in so I didn't look but I grabbed a price sheet on my way out of the office. I'll have to compare today's sheet to the one from two weeks ago. Will update if anything significant.

Happened here over a month ago....£20 ton off all grades of steel/iron....Topped about 4 years ago (£200+light iron/shread) now half that.
May be the 'quick buck' scrappers may leave it and less competion - We can't contol the price but we can adapt and push forward and upwards.

People learn more the harder times get....Chin up ...Push on..

Worst case is, my trips to the yard become less frequent and I have more time to sort and maximize profit...

The opportunists start leaving more stuff by the curb on trash night

true that more stuff left behind that's not heavy may be a nice advantage since I am a all weather bloody hands type of scrapper lol

Exactly...this is pretty much my second job so if there's less competition, it's better for me.

Still $0.09 here. The yard I sell to shreds everything on site, so I guess that would make a difference

Just took in 1000# today still holding at $170 a gross ton. Its been that way since March 1st.

Think we peaked at $240/ton.. but it didn't stay long!

$120 a ton for unprepared (long iron) (shred) whatever you want to call it here. Includes tin. Vehicles are $95 a ton. I get $15 a ton bonus as a regular customer.

The yard I use dropped from $210 per ton down to $195 per ton for shred/tin

My GAWD.. How do they expect you folks in Nebraska to actually make $? $95 a ton for cars? You'd have to get them for Free to make much of anything off of them.
Everytime this topic comes up it boggles my mind. The price differences at the same time in the same country always make me shake my head.

It's a big country and supply/demand varies from place to place. It doesn't surprise me. Here in NY I imagine the demand is higher since they can put it on a ship and send it right out (My yard is literally next to the Hudson River. Fun fact: They scrapped the Southwest 737 that crashed at LaGuardia last year at this yard after floating it up the river on a barge). It might cost too much to send anything scrapped in Nebraska to the coast so it's more cost effective to sell it locally but at the lower price the demand dictates. I dunno, I'm dredging up the little bit of Economics 101 that I managed to stay awake for.

Anyway, Tin dropped another $5 when I went in this morning. This makes me a sad panda.

$170.00 a ton at the yard I use in Oklahoma. It's down from $185.00 a ton just a couple of months ago.

Did you see Adam won a Platt award the other night. Up against some pretty stiff competition. Do you have an up to date price sheet from them? Wondering if they are still doing tires on rims.
