The biggest item in my last cleanout is this old IHC truck sporting its boom and 24 inch auger. The owner says to take it to the salvage yard. Didn't try to start the truck / one brake was frozen. Sure a shame. Sometimes I lay awake at night wondering if I did the right thing.

I don't know how your deal was setup, I didn't see the truck myself, but drill on the rear of the truck coulda sold even if it needed a little work.
I personally will not scrap heavy equipment, but also have a buyer for just about any piece I come across.
sent about 5 grand to the scrapper IMO.

Long story Short .....................It's been stored inside and the owner died; his family sold the building and it has to be vacated by mid June. The family is personal friends with the scrapyard owner. I'm the grunt removing/hauling and although this is too big for my meager equipment, the scrapyard will send a truck to haul it in and the family wants me to get half of the proceeds as was the arrangement for the rest of the items. These people are just TOO NICE to me !! I think they're looking out for the scrapyard owner also; he can surely profit down the road.
If I was in a more industrial area, I'm sure there'd be buyers. I'd rather sell it on BigIron (online auction), but there is not time to make those arrangements and wait for the results.
We all see waste and shame in the scrapping business. This is just one of the big ones, but think about it........many will still profit from this loss.

$10 to $1 the scrap yard owner sells it on BigIron (or similar).
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

I'll give you $100 for the cab, lol. If I were closer I would be serious.
Man I hate to see something like that go to the scrap yard, when good cabs for old trucks are getting hard to find.

I hope not. Scrapyard owner has a heart AND good business sense plus he's not in a hurry to turn it into cash.
They called back....it weighed 11,600 .
Now moving back to what I'm familiar with hauling that doesn't require big equipment or many brains !!

Yep, everythings bigger in America... (even your 44 gallon drums are 55 gallons.....)The old IHC went down the road to a new home.
We don't see much equipment like that. The cranes a jewel and some one could make a living from it.
