Lose a lot, learn a lot, come out way ahead

Ok, so this is my best find so far, to date.

A little backstory, few weeks ago I hooked up with another guy in the DFW area to haul off the cars I had people contact me to remove for a 25$ per car finders fee. In 3 weeks time, I threw this guy a total of 6 vehicles, 4 of which came from this job. The job was for 4 trucks and a truck bed for a total of 1200 for all 5 pieces, a total which I dropped to 1000, eating the other 200 and giving up my finders fee of 125$ for the client because there were other items included in the package that I was going to take, thus reducing the price to 200 per piece with the agreement he take all 5 items. The truck bed needs a trailer and to be picked up today, the other 4 he hauled off last week. Yesterday, when contacting him to confirm the job today, he informed me that he wouldn't be paying the 200 for the truck bed. The bed in question is one much like this one here, Pronghorn Flatbeds - Quoteko.com , only with a lot more rust, and some water heaters sitting on it. On it's own for 200, a net loser, but when combined with the dually and 3 other 3/4 ton pickups, 2 of which were military vehicles, which was part of the deal, it makes up for it in roses.

So anyway, learned a good lesson on partnering with other scrappers in jobs like this, and what not to do. But also came out far, far ahead. In addition to the 7.2 IH Navistar Diesel engine I got, the reason I ate the other 200$, I got a 6.2 diesel motor complete, 6.9 diesel motor block with heads, 3 boxes of OEM 67 camaro parts, a very large truck bed toolbox, shredder attachment for a tractor, 4 sets of good tries, one with rims, dozens of all good misc auto parts, rebuilt and working transmission, 8 batteries, many still good, a Model T frame with just the wheels and floor, the truck bed that was supposed to be hauled off today, another small but very heavy trailer with at least 1000 pounds of metal, other misc scrap, and contacts to his friends whom have scrap of their own.

So if you know anyone in need of OEM 67 Camaro parts, let me know. I'm sorting through the numbers now.

Glad to see you learned from it, some never do. Partnerships are doomed from the start in my experience. Some do it but i believe your partner will always try to find a way to cut you out of the business.

Yea, that was my concern. He didn't do that though, he just left me hanging on a deal.
