On vacation.... And what do I see... I see a BBQ on the side of the road looking at me... So I stop, chop off the goodies and put them in the trunk of wife's car... I left the frame for the next guy. I was being considerate.

Been breaking down motors lately and stripping some wire. I think it worth it to tear down these. Got two 5 gal pails full now. Check for AL windings! **** AL!
2 pails full of copper that is. And a garbage can full of vacuum motors and such to widdle away at when it get crappy out.
Tried posting pic. I dunno. This computer thing isn't for me. Far computers, love to hit em, can't understand (and don't care enough) why they don't do what you want them to. Whatever.

    Microwave Marathon

So I tackled the leaning tower of microwaves, 15 in total. Extract the wires, xformers, magnetron and some that had the turntable motor. Took me roughly 2 hours to do. Now I have a box full of transformers (most of which both copper coils), etc. to break down and enough carcasses to make a shred run worth while.
I also separated out the micro switches was wondering does anyone else do this? Does it make sense to separate? I was thinking I should just throw these in with the ins wire?

The microswitches are something that breaks in microwaves. When the doors opened when the microwaves still going, theres power going thru the microswitches. That can cause them to arc and weld together, or stay open.
When they do this, they blow the main fuse.

So, if you get any 'Invertor' microwaves, or the 'combo grill oven' sort (they almost always have Ali winding transformers), and they still look Ok. Check the microswitches for a dud one. Replace it (electritians replace all if them, ones arced - so has the rest) and the main fuse and it may still work.
Invertor microwaves only have 100gms Copper in total.

I save the switches because there's Silver in some of the contacts, and Copper/Silver in the others.
I worked out how much Silver, years ago, but have forgotton. So they just get chucked into a bucket and saved up.

I've got a bucket for that! Well maybe just an ice creme tub for now. I have saved up all the switches from ovens and DWs so it won't be long and I will have a bucket full.

Did you keep any glass plates? If they are intact and clean, you can try selling them on eBay or CL.

Its funny you mention that. A 2nd hand place near here sells them for $5 - $10 each.
Last week someone I know was asking about getting a new platter for his microwave.
He didn't want to replace the microwave because "I like it, its the right size for the bench, easy to use, and they are used to it (family) and it'd be a waste to buy a new one as theres nothing wrong with this one".

We ended up finding the right combination of glass platter, plastic drive unit and teflon wheel unit.

I saved the glass plates and listed them. It's just like the DW racks; end up sitting on em a while til that customer comes knocking.
