Why are there no rugby or football teams, MMA fighters or wrestlers who are named after or have as mascots THE YELLOW FLY ?. (for you unfortunate ones in the north, some one in the southeast muggy belt will explain this one.

The yellow fly is about the size of a normal house fly with delta wings. It is as tenacious and stubborn as a house fly. yellow jacket stings and it hurts for a couple of days. A mosquito itches for a day or so. A hornet is mean and aggressive and hurts like he388 for a day or so. Most bees will leave you alone if you don't mess with them but they do hurt some when they sting, for a time. Up north yellow jackets can be a bumble bee, a wasp or a hornet depending on where you live.

Here a yellow jacket is a small yellow and black bee about half the size of a honey bee. They can, on occasion be found under old tires , logs and such in a small hornet like hive but, those are new hives. the yellow jacket lives underground in hives from the size of a car to the size of a house in populations that can reach hundreds of thousands. If you google them you will see cars and even whole houses taken over by them in one huge hive. They are super aggressive and attack in the hundreds or thousands. There sting is similar to a Fire ant and burns like a hot needle for a few days.

All of the above go away after , at most , a few days. The yellow fly is a whole other experience. They bite not sting. The bite is very like a horse fly bite in the pain range,however they like to bit you on an existing sore if possible. Like a pesky fly or Mosquito they do not give up until they get you. You can not swat them, repellants don't work. The sores they create can last for weeks. There is nothing that will take the pain and itch away. I swear as soon as the sore starts to heal the same fly will come back and bit you again on top of the same spot.. I would much rather be bitten or stung by any thing else and I have had them all. Now you know. It's meaner, tougher, smarter and will never give up, and will put a hurt on you that lasts for weeks. Once you encounter a yellow fly you will never forget it.

When I was younger there was a wasp nest in a bush in the apartment complex I lived in. So we told the maintenance guy. He grabbed a thing of hair spray a pack of matches...no more nest, or bush for that matter. lol.

Black flies are quite similar up here on the sandbar. You get bit by one you'll remember it.
