Smashing's Scrapping journey

Figured I'd start a log of my adventures....

Today was my first scrap run. Managed to get about half of my shred in the truck plus a battery and a little aluminum...



Being my first time at the yard I wanted to get the lay of the land so to speak so I skipped the trailer.

Not bad of a line at the scale....

Not bad for my first run. The cashier was super hot with one hell of a body AND she handed me monies!

I wondered if there were other Rochestarians out there. Didn't know Interstate bought them. Good info!

Made my second run on Friday...



#480 shred and got to park about 15 feet from an operating crane magnet. I was praying he saw me park there!

I know it's nothing compared to most of your guys loads but I'm breaking into this slowly. I don't have a big truck nor much room to stage things. Plus I need to keep the wife happy! She'll have a fit if it starts looking like a private scrap yard here. lol!

Saw this guy and his wife parked by the non-ferrous bldg - tons of stuffed animals and a mattress on the ladder rack. He was cutting cable in lengths( guessing in prep to strip them) off a wooden spool. Very surprised the yard was letting him prep in the parking lot.


Cut open the degaussing cables from a monitor.... Just over .5# in copper! That's incentive! Would this be #1 copper? My yard lists BB, #1 & #2.

My yard pays #2. They have no #1 category.

I thought BB was reserved for pencil lead and larger??

I love my Tacoma - just wish it was a bit bigger when I'm filling it with junk.

I was quoted $6 on the phone and I show up and got paid $8. Not complaining but I wonder how accurate other quotes are. Time will tell. Not sure why they don't pay by pound

Yeah little blurry cause it was still dark out. 2 washers, Stove and assorted stuff - 640#.

Got this out of an old fridge. Nothing too exciting but it a the first on I've seen like this. Heavier the the usual ones I get.

in my area batteries go by the piece not the pound,,,,auto 12.00,,,,heavy equipment varies usually 20 or better.......i once sold some from a back up ventalation system for a large anhydrous amonia tank, i got them from a power plant,,,,,after we done all the retrofit work from the epa stuff clinton passed all the plants had to upgrade there smoke scrubber systems......some plants have urhea and some have amonia..... the ones with the amonia have to have a back up electric system for the ventalation syatem...i geuse when it gets hot outside that stuff expands and it is very important the tanks breath right....anyhow i had them set 2 of these batteries on a tri axle trailor and i wish i had only took one.......i dont remember exactly what i got paid per pound but it was a good payday....over 2000 dollars

the best part was when i was trying to get the batteries i originally offered my boss a cut, he was 21 years old ( someone importants kid ) he said no man just keep what you get as a matter of fact you came in on your day off so go ahead and have johnny bring the feul truck over and top your truck off.....i never told them what i made.....looking back id say if they went through proper disposal channels they would have had to pay a fortune to get rid of those batteries
