I found a mint Buick LESABRE 1978 it rides like new or very close . The engine is a 301 (4.9)
the car rides like a dream and tracks as most GM cars do straight and yes the AC is working
The trunk is huge . But what has me interested is
1) An auto to take my 4 kids places
2) It has a serious trailer hitch bolted to the frame
I could buy it for $800 (asking price) maybe $700
rent a U haul auto tow trailer for $40 and tow my disabled 3/4 ton ford van of 6000 pounds for a guaranteed $600 add the cat $40 to $50
I could also load it naturally
The van well I never had time to get it to run again , but when it did I used to haul 4000 # in the box and it just did it no problem suspension is strong, the 4.2 V6 slow but unstoppable
the van needs
1) to start
2) back brake lines
3) patch for air pipe for air pump
4) tires (i have)
5) Yes it's a rust bucket and needs tending
I used it and loved it but something simple has it as a non starter.
Now if I get it to run and make it passable for inspection
I have 2 crappy looking auto's
The Buick I see is not a completely realistic scrapping auto, but I figure I could tow 4000# probably more with some rubber helper snubs , but a legal 4000#
Just wonder if there is a money making second life with a trailer & for personal use holds six adults, for one of these old war horses
darn the car is 36 years old , whats that bugger still doing around
In my past I had a 1977 Catlaina ( Pontiac) 301 CID = 16 mpg around town
1978 Oldsmobile 88 with a 350 CID (cop car fast) horrible on fuel & noticeably bad even at $1,25 per gal
Yet each car was rock solid and never left me stranded
