How many cd drives does it take to make a pound of boards ?
that I hear are very high quality .

To answer your question, from my very unscientific test around 8 half length cd boards or around 5 full length boards (if you can find them anymore) make a pound. Currently the price per lb from my buyer is $3.30/#.Originally Posted by Copper Head

Is this your question or just an example? If it is your question, I don't know how many boards it would take to make a #. Like any other boards some are bigger than others so you would have get an average weight. They are mid grade boards to my buyer.

I have cd drives coming out of my ears . I also have a lot of copper bearing to sell yard pays in the area of .18 cents per pound .
I am thinking to just put the intact drive in, and sell at .18

Take the green boards out they are a decent sell to our buyers here on the forum.
I think ewasted buys them around $3/lb

I need see how many to make a pound , once dismantled cd drive it's mix .
Some times if i have a large load of motors ( that I do ) I have also put them as such.
but the ratio is 1 cd drive to 12 vac motors ,
need to get to the 400 pound range more weight more forgiving of the fluff motors
.27 .28 per pound
those boards might only weigh 3/4 ounce each
I have held them a silver dollar feels heaver
I bet it takes 20 drives to get a pound
A cd unit weighs 2 pound
at CB price about 36 cents X 20 7.20 bucks
at motor price 55 cents X 20 = 11 bucks
so if 20 boards = 3 bucks
then remaining weight of the mix = 3.25 bucks
total $6.25

I don't know how you're able to throw those in with motors, but if you can - do it. I'd even just go for copper bearing price if you can get it for them.

I am not trying to imply selling false items that are not a true Representative but mass weight with Motors CB AL SS the yard is more forgiving to the percentage of the product
So you have to really have weight at least 400# motors alone , real copper type (let them CU windings show) then salt and pepper the load . with a few large dismantled transformers , CD units , the load has to be large so it just gets swooshed off the truck . good enough done.-

I don't understand this, I've never heard of a yard paying copper bearing price cd drives. They have very little if any copper so if your telling us that your sneaking these in with your copper bearing items then your being dishonest and dishonesty will get you nowhere. Just my .02

Of coarse a yard wants the best product copper motors juicy copper bearing , So who delivers ? scrappers,
thousands of pounds of vac motors , washer motors , oil burner motors You name it . found it . CD are motors , thats no lie , they also have copper .
I have not visited a scrap yard that did not have an angular view of how to manipulate . Being one with there flow is fair . After all I have to pull off the main thing
lots of motors , have you an idea of how many Vac i sledge up, then dealing with the plastic , the mess , Oh yes they will take some salt and pepper to help in the continuation of a quest that benefits them .
The quest is I stop for ALL vacuums as I drive . TV's also . I only sell to them unless out of state
Car insurance - fuel - this is no joke out there to keep going
In a sense I work for them - I'm one of there boy's . It's all metal and all good.
Now I have heard stories from scrappers from there mouth and they laugh as they tell me .
Bricks in micro waves
dirt and cement in washers
water heaters in winter frozen and full
that is what I see as dishonest
I'll make it clear THAT I NEVER DO heck they get dissembled stuff from me from my wire and motor quest.

Dude if you can get CBM or really anything better then shred price for CD drives you are doing well. The ones I have taken apart recently are mostly plastic. The actual motors in them are quite small. I have been pulling the bottom plate off to remove the board and any easy to yank motors. Then re-attach the bottom plate with one screw and send it to the shred pile. I would break them down more, but my yard accepts 30% plastic with shred. The CD drive in my opinion is more than 30% plastic, but after mixing with other much cleaner steal my load is usually well under the 30% limit. Sounds like you could do about the same thing and add them to your CBM pile. By removing the board you wouldn't be removing the motors, either.

Hi , I just scored about 10 tonne off copper wire great ,cost me nothing ecept the time to pick it up . Unfortunately about 3 tonne is armore plated .I had to take every thing.Is there any cost effective way to strip this as I hate to throw money away, any advice appreciated .Thanks

Taking apart CD drives is a time consuming, losing battle. Yes the buyers pay good on the boards. I did the math/breakdown on 500 pounds of drives, and in the end the amount gained from hours of work was about 35-40.00. Now I wait until I have a full gaylord and sell them as is. I can do something more productive in those several hours and end up making more than I would have breaking down the drives.
