Picked up couple of vans today

been busy last couple days! picked up an 82 chevy celebrity monday. and today picked up a 93 & 94 chevy asto vans with full of scrap metal.
owner already removed the copper wiring and the battery, alt, starter! but forgot the cats! so i cut them off and tossed them in my cat pile. still have one left to cut off yet. here is the cats off the 82 chevy celebrity and 93 chevy astro van.

got one of the astro vans into the scrap yard just in time as they were closing for the day. otherone is sitting on my trailer for tomorrow.
first asto van came in at 4,800 at $195 a ton came to a total of $468 so can't complain about that. 82 chevy celebrity came in few pounds short of a ton in a half. got around $280 for that one.

the smaller one out of the chevy celebrity was not to bad. but the one off the chevy astro van was a pain to cut off. was hard to get the saw saw underneath between the trailer fender. but got it! and that bigger one is pretty heavy.

well the other cat i did not cut off! i said heck with it. it was raining and the astro van was sitting down on the frame(no wheels when i picked it up) and it was sitting about line with my trailer fenders, and could not get my sawzaw under it. the other astro van came in around 5,800# with some scrap metal in it! another $508 check today. and the guy i got it from said he still has plenty of work for me as soon as it quits raining to load it. due to muddy yard and road.

Pretty sure that is a Jumbo Bead cat. 65-85 bucks, should sound like little beads when you shake it. Although I've had one that did not make any noise, so they weighed it with one the same to make sure that it was full, and it was.

Good score on the vans, and saving/investing your profits is a great idea. A lot of guys just don't have the discipline to do so. I built my business from scratch that way, it pays off.

Yes, those GM Bead cats are awful. I'm pretty good at judging a full or an empty. The partials (and many of them are) are the ones that give me nightmares. With a honeycomb cat, 1/2 or 1/4 is easy to tell.. Not with a Bead. When they feel like less than 1/4 but still have just a little, I won't even buy them. I've also seen partials where the remaining beads were actually burned up and disintegrated. A re-welded or non-original plug is also a dead giveaway that a Bead converter has been "cleaned out" and will have little to nothing in it.
