You can buy second hand gauges- lines- scales etc. But I think you need to buy new tanks to put the recovered gas into.
You need a different tank for every gas.
You can't mix two gases in the same tank.
There's a fridgeration shop across the road from where I scrap, so I will ask them for info soon.
I think it has been noted that when you start working with a freon recycling co. they will supply the tanks then you swap them out when full.Quote:

Everyone seems to know a yard that deliberately ignores gases in refrig equipment and just squirt it to the sky....

Sawmill has a point. Everyone says that their yard just throws them in with the shred. If I were you guys, I'd call the EPA and tell them so for a reward of $10k as well as having benefited the environment and the generations to come, such as my children and my grandchildren.
No. They were very heavy and I accidentally dropped one on the other and the thin copper coil pipes were ruptured on both units. Neither had any gas in them. I cut my finger.Quote:

If you are scrapping two items. I wouldn't yell at you for releasing into atmo. But if you are doing tons of ac worth; then you are doing no one any good. If you can; maybe crimp the part that has the freon in it. I am not sure if this is possible to bypass or if the freon item is where all the goodies are as I have yet to scrap an AC unit.
Scrappers ratting out yards? Well, I don't think the yards bat an eye at doing the reverse.
But someone said the law is "...leading to a conviction...." so the authorities won't do the work. They want you to come to them with proof that there is dirty work at the crossroads.
No quite so easy as just reporting them. I guess there's a catch to everything.

luckly my yard will recover freon from ac's, friges, freezers, water coolers, and dehumidafires. They got a shed at the end of the sheet iron pile. I just pull the wires and fan motors and done. They get the rest. I hate loosing out on ac rads, But atleast im doing the right thing.
Well, I went to the yard and point blank asked today. You need a notarized receipt to recover the rads, copper and motor from wallies. I can dump them into the shred pile as long as they are whole. So... It looks like I will be killing the polar bears.
If there is a 10k reward I wouldn't hesitate to turn that place in, there is no excuse for being ignorant like that. If you can't handle your scrap properly than they shouldn't be in that buisness
You're right. I will put them on the curb and make sure that the garbage man picks them up. That way Sarasota county will be responsible for any gas leakage.Quote:

You can get a licence to drain the Freon from many places, its a EPA section 608 open book test. It costs 24.95 to take. But do know, the EPA offers a $5000 reward for reporting someone who is illegally venting Freon. SO besides for our planet, I suggest it is drained legally for your own sake. Never know what neighbor decided to take photos and make some quick cash. The price of the copper really isnt worth draining it illegally. The reclaiming tools cost alot, but I would suggest charging for the reclaiming during a pick up, or just leave it.
