A whole house was gutted after it was burnt badly and I got the wire, a good amount is strippable and I bagged it all, theres 7 bags weighing 30lbs on average, Theres also the panel, and tons of outlets and switches and fixtures. 9/10ths is 110 and theres a bit 220. It is the old kind with the mesh coating so its hard to strip. My wire stripper pushes through with a gear and it gets so clogged with soot it can no longer grip it!!! But I found a very easy way to do it instead. This only works if its messed up and loosened from the fire. First you take a utility knife and an about 4 foot piece of wire, go to middle of wire and cut the casing off on a 1in. area all the way around the middle. Pull from both ends, and walla! It is so easy and quick. (Wire stripper works whence I pull the 3 out of the inside)
So far I am cutting it into manageable sections and packaging it.
Since my dad works in the disaster restoration business I have oppurtunity for a lot of this stuff but the only reason he got me this one is because its a big gut job with lots of wire, usually he only gets me good stuff because he doesn't have a lot of time to run me around. If I had a truck I would of been the guy who got ALL the appliances, ALL the electronics, They get gut jobs all the time where everythings too burnt to salvage so I have potential in the future to get some good stuff in this area. Thanks for reading
You'll be busy!! Remember as a teenager there's more to life than just scrapping. You can't get time back and you can always scrap...
Update: I cut all the wire into 4 foot strips and sorted it by gauge. I have like 75 pounds if 110 and around 20 lbs of 220. I also got around 60 lbs of electrical outlets and switch boxes. I have stripped around 10 lbs so far. I'll update when I finish stripping
Keep up the good work! Pics are good too, I seem to be standing on the ceiling too sometimes.
It's always a good idea to keep wire and motors and other high value items stashed away for a "rainy day break-down/strip marathon fund"
Sorry for late pics on the wire, I have been working on my new project. Getting a heater in garage. Here is pics of heater, and wire I cut into 4 foot sections for easy processing. Theres also some 220 in another box but heres the majority of what I got. Also theres a picture of my christmas cards I sent out in there. Sent out like 50 of those including 3 business cards in each. Enjoy
Picture of all the electrical outlet boxes and switches, The barrel is half full of them and other screws/nails in the bottom. Weighs a ton.

Don't forget the brass inside the plug-in part of the electrical outlet. Just tap them with a hammer and the outlet will fall apart.
Ok thanks, I'll have to do that
Usually some silver contacts in there too.
That bucket system is seriously cool.
I may have to try that...if I can find a free wall to hang them on.
Silver contacts in switches...
Where is this silver people speak of? I have a housefull of outlets and switches.
will repost when I get time- Sorry
