Curious about the house. Is the whole thing coming down? Who hoarded all that steel in the garage? I'd love to know the whole story, including how you acquired it. Tax sale is coming up here and I know there are some tear downs that will be sold. Probably for a few dollars more than taxes owed. Not sure what your next step is. I guess it would take some heavy equipment to pull it down and pile it all into roll offs.
Thanks,
Cheryl
can u say honey hole
Garage: I posted a thread a few months back about the garage idea, I was planning to fill my grandmas dettached garage she doesn't use with my steel and sell it all at once, so when it was full I tried to get roll off's but they wanted a crazy price for them, plus the powerlines wouldn't allow for a 40yarder to fit. Instead I used my truck and got out around 10 loads, over 6 tons of steel after all said and done. Now I'm converting into a workshop for breakdowns since its summer, I didn't take it directly because scrapyard closed on weekdays before I could get there, but now I can.
Houses: My uncles house and neighbors vacation house were being bought up for flood control and he had permission to take what he wanted so he let me strip it. I don't have to tear it down.
Just started working taking file cabinets and shelves out of an office building. Filled up 2 trucks and a trailer. around 6,000#'s on the first load and second one I plan on taking just as much whence they shred the rest of the files. Loaded my truck with 2,600 lbs. Largest load yet, was about 2" from tires and wheel wells, will post pictures when I have time...
Very nice man! Some pretty sweet hauls. So you have the silver f150 and a Sonoma bed trailer? I like your "that guys a scrapper" side walls. I just finally got the keys to my truck. Picking it up on Monday or Tuesday. I've been looking for some decent ideas for side walls that aren't too tacky, I might steal an idea or two from you.
Glad to see you're using imgur - I find them extremely easy to use...and they provide you a link to hotlink them here (bbcode) so you can just cut and paste without typing the [IMG] commands or hitting the picture icon on here. Super easy. And just a tip...if you're using your phone (or something else that takes huge pics) and host them there the pics will be gigantic. But if you put a "s", " m", or "l" at the end of the link they give you before the .jpg it makes your pics display small, medium, or large.
Keep us updated. Looks like you have a little cash in your pocket to start your summer!
For sure, the regional manager called me in and they have huge locations all around. I'm sure I'll be getting more calls. I'm about to make some new 2x6 sides and bolt them together. I'll post some pics about that.
Some tips Id put d rings for straps, and bolt stake pockets in through metal not just prefab holes. Also use some galvanized screws. The biggest mistake people make is they don't use a back gate, and they loose tons of space. Also if you do a slide down gate make the slots very deep because stuff in the truck pushes the sides out. I like to carry a socket and tighten them before each load. Also I regret leaving a window slot because I never look out it. Wide towing mirrors help also. Can't wait to c what u make.
Devin, I hope you are taking some time off from scrapping and thinking of scrap. I admire your work ethic very much, and wish there were more young people like you. You have your whole life ahead of you to work. You are only young once.
What I am trying to say is it's 10 pm on a Friday night. You should be out chasing p'tang.
Money is not the root of all evil, the love of money is.
Thought I'd post some more pics and updates.
Got a forklift tub for free.
Sold my electric mobility chair for $400
Bought a trailer frame for $300, treated lumber for $210 framed in the trailer and lag bolted to frame, made it 14' long extended on
to tongue.
Some outdoor lights someone bought and decided not to use and gave to me, retailed for $200 each, have 54 of them. Aluminum shell I think. weird voltage so not useful in residential and most commercial
This is when I bought it:
800lbs in this bin
28ft of pipe on my truck, 1600 lbs.
The free bin:
Scrapyard unloading trailer:
Once they removing the rest of the files I get all these:
Trailer full: About 2000 lbs in this load:
My truck full: 2300lbs, way loaded down, had a 20 yr old paper cutter in there, it broke my tailgate off, weighed around 700 lbs:
I'm glad I have health insurance cause you just broke my neck!
Nice hauls Devin...busy busy as always.
What's the weird voltage Devin?
217 I believe, but don't quote me on it. The guy is an electrician so I trust him enough not to hang these in my garage.
