For the last month around my house every appliance I find has a cut cord!. Microwave, fan, vacuums, computer, tv ,vcr, stove. This guy must be walking or on a bike as he could take most of these items in a car... oh well I got the rest!

Yep, if I can't take it all, I don't take it at all. Just my way. It pains me though, when it looks like there may be something there of some value, but the cord is cut. Could splice another one on I guess, but that's just not my way.
most of the time even the appliances i get calls to come and pick up have the cords cut off them....i dont mind it at all.....if i get the cords thats great....i am just as happy when someone gives me 20 dollars as i am when they give me 50 dollars.....
if you dont believe me,,just try an experiment...send me 20 dollars then send me 50 dollars....then you can see for your self....ill even take a photo of me opening the envelope you send it in...that way you can see the reactions for your self......
im just goofing
**** it..now I have to see if I can get the mailman to bring it back! I was hoping for a youtube video of your reaction.
Sirscrapalot - I'm sad now. Thanks a lot wadar!
Want to talk to the dude? Bait the cord cutter with a black rubber hose or black string in place of the cord on a gutted tv or something on your curb. Then wait and video for us.
I recently saw a guy field-strip two TV's. He jumped out.. Took the backs off with tools- gutted all the wire and yolk out of them.. then put the backs- BACK ON the TV's and leave them. Here the garbage men won't take them.. not on heavy trash day or any other. I just thought "Dude- take the darn TV and eat the cost of disposing of it"
You've gotta take it all.. rule #1 in scrapping!
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!
I do most of my "shopping" at Curbco and cut wires seem to be the norm. I have to admit, I will cut them off a vacuum cleaner, they are just too much of a pain.
On another note, I've stopped scrapping appliance cords. A guy emailed me a while back (from my CL ad) and asked if I had a 3 prong dryee cord. I happened to have one on the trailer, so I offered to meet up with him for $5. He threw me a $10 and said he wasn't able to find the cord anywhere else! I figure I'll just sit on those for a while!
Also, I think it is incredibly rude to disassemble scrap at the curb! Shortly after we moved in, we put out a big screen TV. The next morning, we woke up to an awful noise at 7am. An inconsiderate scrapper was beating it apart with a hatchet and sledge! Mr. Scrapzilla blessed him out and made him put the trash in the can. I see his work all over my small town and it just irritates the pee out of me!
Often, in NZ anyway, if the appliance has come from a business, they cut the cord off to make sure someone won't find it, plug it in, get s shock, and blame the buisness.
It peeves me of when 'cordcutters' just cut the cord. But on the other hand, they don't know that theres more money to be made an d I still get to make that money anyway.
Just for fun, slice the cord about six inches from the plug, pull out a loop of wire, strip this out the length of the wire, both directions.
Now rub the cord so the slice closes up and leave it like that....
Next time a cordcutter gets the cord, its empty....
Joking aside, the cord cutters annoy me to. I follow the rule like a lot of you.."If you can't take it all, don't take it." method.
I dunno, a lot of us are in this to help the earth an line our pockets. I like to make sure I'm doing both. Leaving something to sit on the side of the road just asks for troubles. Smash an grabbers, a big rust mess, a mess in general, chance to have things leech out that shouldn't, etc.
Now if I go pick up a dryer or washer, an they removed the cord so it'll work with their new one, cool. Or if they want to remove it an sell themselves..great. It's your you can take what you want off of it. But the drive by cord cutters annoy me.
A note on the above: When my dryer died, I had one that worked that I was going to sell on cl. Anyhow, tried to hook it up an the plugs were different then what my old one was. So I took the cord from the old an hooked it to the new. Works like a champ.
Anyhow, I know it's petty to be annoyed by such things but hey...we all got something in life that annoys us.
Sirscrapalot - 20 freaking pages of quotes! Go read them...NOW!
Let's face what's easier than scrapping wire? Me I take it all I don't curb shop, but if I see something on the side of the road , I grab it . Just like any self respecting scrapper would. Cord or not its free money. Who knows could be some young scrapper on a bike ,like hobo said, trying to earn money to buy a truck so he "can" take it all.
most used appliance stores will buy all the electric range stove cords and dryer cords you can bring them.....i know they do around here...i always save all my 220 appliance cords,,,i have a few stores in one little area that buy things from me,,,i take a day every couple months ,load my truck up ,deliver what ive saved them over the last couple months, and repeat....
it seems like a much better paycheck that way
I hear ya on the young scrapper trying to save up, but at lest in my area that's not the case. It's either people who can't be bothered to take the whole thing, or for drugs. If for the second I can usually tell as if it's a tv the whole **** thing glass an all be busted an strewed everywhere.
Now I take TV's, especially if I see them on a curb. I got my reasons, besides having a way to dispose of the glass..ya new folks can search for those posts, if ya like. That being said..it annoys me because I do take them, an break them down. Those cords add up! I get paid good money for my wire so to lose it to someone cherry picking, gets me annoyed. I don't lose sleep over it but it still bugs me. Just like fingernails on a chalk board, or people going super slow in the left lane after passing a sign that says.."All slower traffic keep right".
Sirscrapalot - Save a lawn, scrap a TV. - Ha..I just made that up.
