    Shootin N Scrapin

Finally got around to joining my local shooting range again today. Two of my favorite things are shooting and scrapping. Normally I hate picking up my brass after shooting but now its all different. All those shells that people just leave to rot.... I had my choice of old brass, new brass, aluminum casings and steel casings... Picked up all I could but there's thousands more. Look forward to next trip.

I separate the good brass for reloading, the cracked, stomped and old brass for scrap and throw in the aluminum shells and steel casings in their respective scrap piles.
Anyone else into shootin N scrapping??

How about a sifting pan?? Kind of like this one. It looks to me that you could cover a lot of ground with little effort.

I haven't been shooting for a while but if I'm out in the woods at a shooting pit I usually try and pick up the brass and other scrap.
I have a bunch of used aerosol cans that I need to put two holes in each to be taken in as scrap, plan on tapping them with the 22 sometime.

A dirt shifter from any trapping supply place should work. I should take mine to a couple of old rural shooting ranges and see what I could find...

    Shootin N Scrapin

I have been saving all my brass for the last five years. One of these days I will learn to reload.

When I was in the army I bet I spent the equivalent of 5 days picking up brass off of firing ranges.

Visiting the local range is on my list of things to do both for scrap and to join. I just moved to town so no more shooting from the from porch for this guy.

Just a tip, and you may know this but for the good of the forum:

Show up the day after long distance shooting events if you can. Most of the guys who shoot distance competitions will police their own brass to reload. If any of the brass is left it me be high value stuff as in 338 laupua or 12.7mm (.50) and that will move quick. I'm not up on current prices but I'm sure it would be well worth your time.

I own a .32-20WCF revolver and that brass is HIGHLY coveted for reloaders. A box of 50 new shells goes for between $25-$32 and those rounds are relatively small compared to the big rifle rounds. The empty casings sold for over $25 when I put them on line. I had about 130 casings I sold.

I tested out some .303 and .30-30 yesterday and made sure that brass didn't go far. .22 rounds NEVER get picked up but they do now. I'm going to have to figure out one day how many empty .22s make a pound...lol

I rake and sift, unfortunately in my case grass, sticks, butts and other chaff still need to get separated. Watch those live rounds
Shoot quite frequently, really want to get back into more competitive arenas just don't have the time.

I shoot a good bit, but do more hunting, but still pick up all shells, even shotgun shells, even if it is steel on the end, it still adds up in the shred pile. It also helps I mow our local shooting range and am there to pick it up lots.

A gun is a required tool for scrapping farms, to many varmints that consider my scrap their home. I do not know where the closest shooting range is in these parts and the closest town of 1,000 people is 15 miles away. Therefore most people shoot were ever they want. Most shells are picked up and reloaded. Glad to see a few gun owners on the forum.

I'm an avid shooter, and conceal carry permit holder. There is a Taurus tcp 380 in my pocket right now, lol. I don't scrap shells much, most ranges near me have reloaders that come in and collect shell casings, I do collect my own steel cases since they are normally not reloadable.

I've done a bit of skeet shooting, don't do a ton of it though. Like I said, I like being in the woods looking for an animal to shoot instead. Or laying out in the marsh waiting for that flock of geese or ducks to come in
