The discussion of the relationship between war and scrap prices is interesting. Wars extending over a period of time involving numerous countries impacts scrap prices. As the war continues scrap prices continue to climb, but at the end of a major war they plummet. The reason is the victors cannot afford to collect all the machinery and return it home or want to destroy the opponents machines to reduce the threat so they scrap it and flood the market.

I would like to point out that all of the modern conflicts in the Middle East and the Cold War are a direct result of the treaty of WWII. We created the state of Israel to house Jews from throughout Europe, divided the Muslim states, and Saddam Hussein was trying to create a Muslim nation similar to the one before the war using the blue prints from Nazi Germany. He was a student of a man that worked with Hitler. If you doubt this statement or it interests you, please google Saddam and the Nazi's. Many others share the dream.

So my prediction is the upcoming conflict will not impact scrap prices much because most countries already have the weapons and the conflict will not require the metal WWII did. But at the end of the conflict prices will drop because the market will be flooded. Best time to sell will be after the peak of the conflict. Just my bet.

I still hold the French accountable, WW 1, WW 2, Vietnam, if they had even conviction and wisdom to fight before they got defeated we could've avoided all 3 of those messes and baggage assiocated with them.

As for Iraq, all The life lost was completely in vain now that the jv team has taken over and spawned a evil offspring way worse than before. Funny how they worry bout being there for 10 years when we still military in Japan over 50 years later. Jus saying

If it becomes a full scale military operation, it would almost certainly drive the price of oil up and since scrap is a commodity it would seem logical that it'd follow suit. I like high scrap prices but I also like lower gas prices, we are down to the low 3's around here I'd like to under 3$ gas again if only for a while.

Wile I realize the vast types of scrappers that work there BIZ . I consider my self a Hunter type & I find it . My truck looks the part , I have a look also & I can only imagine what the general public thinks.
But man oh man . I know all the metals and what is what .
On the rare occasion I get stopped by police my scrap knowledge always convinces them I am a real entrepreneur scrapper , not to mention the stuff in truck looks like a mad scientist is working it.

So what am I getting at ?
We the scrappers at SMF are above average in knowledge . Sure this is SMF but we all have opinions that matter ,
we learn from each other
and the subjects are vast cause we are some of the most literate people going .

If you say " i can say a lot here " then by all means say .
I am here to be well rounded - Sure I scrap, and I scrap , no doubt .
But thats what is so fine about SMF it's a place to be human , express feelings ,
I am willing to bet 99.9% of each and every member has an open mind

It is easy to discern casual chat of SMF members on world views compared to Stormfront
I say with respect if any scrappers who are into the Stormfront concepts .

Many a time I have been dumpster diving picking and loading & another Diver shows up . Often they have a sheepish look ,
