How lenient/strict is your yard?

Mine takes everything. Aluminum foil with food on it, capacitors(the kind from ACs and microwaves full of oil inside), mower engines with gasolene still inside, swiffer mops and brooms with aluminum handles, magnatrons, go as breakage. Twirling office chairs, steel cans dirty or not, plastic dishwashers, printers and scanners, low grade boards, metal doors with a wood core, door frames with some concrete still attached, coax cable, for shred. They take compressors for 15-20 cents a lb without being drained. They take computer fans and motors with all sorts of attachments for .20 a lb. Stainless for .50 and it can have some magnetic parts. All aluminum(except cans and wheels) goes as one catagory for .50 but the stuff they allow you to sell as clean probably makes up for it. They buy copper sheet with tar and steel with no deduction, same for brass as long as its mostly brass.

My yard takes food cans if bagged and rinsed. No microwaves even if tore apart and no magnatron. Aluminum cans, we have to open bags and dump ourselves cause people were adding broken glass and such to get extra weight. They think a empty milk crate weighs 8 pounds... lol. They are fairly strict but they have to be with some of the idiots around here. Only other local yard just takes shred and autos, no copper or brass or anything so not much of a choice. I just wish they were open Sundays so I didn't have to rush to get all my loads in between 9 and noon Saturday, I work 9-5 Monday through Friday. Would be great to go to church and then run loads in on Sunday and not tie up all morning Saturday.

My yard wants the cans in clear bags and uncrushed because of that problem, a lot of lowlives and cheats around here and unless they know youre trustworthy they usually keep a close eye on you and what youre bringing in. Ive seen people trying to hide concrete and glass in appliances, trying to dump crts, wood, bags of construction trash, etc with steel, trying to hide iron in with buckets of copper and brass and then make up the most ridiculous excuses when the yard catches them and starts chewing them out. They let you bring in ferrous after hours and on Sundays too, they just give you a ticket with the weight and you can cash in when theyre open.

One yard I use more and more lately is like that. They take pretty much everything. All aluminum goes as one category, dirty or clean does not matter much, only a few cents difference in price, and goes into the same huge pile. I don't have to sort my #2 and #3 wire, all one good price and they throw it all in one pile. They throw brass and copper into one pile too (but pay different price). They export almost everything directly to china, and do it differently than all the other yards around here. All their electronics go into one pile (motherboards, computers, electric motors, low grade boards, etc) again they pay different prices for various items, but they throw it all in the same pile.

I like it, they are easy to deal with and pay very well. Also a lot less sorting for me.

My yards very strict. Well I think so.

I've never tried to 'get anything past' them. So I have never found out.

Mine seems pretty lenient so far. They've taken everything I can throw at them without question. Clean ali is all lumped as one category and the only thing that can't go in shred is refrigerant

very lenient. just about anything with a hint of metal. sometimes if I have lots of lesser quality items I spread it out over a couple loads. as an example I just took in a load of 2100 pounds of printers only. 90% personal all in ones. called the yard closest to the pick up and they said they will take for free. the yard inspects and photograph every load as well per state law

Ive never tried to get anything past them either, they know Im bringing in the items and theyre fine with it. Once I unloaded 3 twirling chairs and a bunch of printers while chatting with the yard manager.

I just took in 1380 lbs of shred, including a stove, a washer and dryer along with a bunch of computer towers. I had to sign a paper that said there were no refrigerants in the load and had to verify that there were no boards in the towers. I had filled up everything with smashed food cans. They pointed me to the shred pile and I unloaded without anyone watching me. They apologized for having their ATM broke when they paid me by check.

I hate my yard, only yard that buys ferrous and non ferrous around me though...

Personally I want an honest yard with the same guidelines as the market. Dealt with a variety of yards but prefer those are on the up and up. Easier to track metal prices. If yards are lenient, they have another agenda.
