    something else from RP Tvs

I just stumbled upon something that some of you may be ignoring from rear projection TVs. As you may or may not know these things have a wide range of interesting lenses in them depending upon how far you want to tear them down. I sit around at night watching TV an scrapping so I tend to tear things down pretty far. After doing dozen or so big screens over the months I built up a big box of these various lenses. Over the course of a couple of flea markets and garage sales I bet I've made about 25 bucks off them. Not a lot but its not bad for some glass that you may overlook. I put them out for $1.00 each and let people pick through them. I haven't checked Ebay to see if there might be a better market for them there but my way involves almost no work at all so its all bonus as far as I am concerned.

I've sold 2 sets of lens out of those types of tvs on ebay. The first set were 3M Delta 78s if I remember right. Got over $10 for the set (3) and I think they went to a foreigner in Cali-forn-i-a. The other set were 3M Delta 77s and they went for almost nothing. So probably ave, out to $5.50-$6 for the sets minus my ebay & paypal fees.

They are called "Fresnel Lense" ... Ebay says they are worth $8 - $50 each

I think there's some confusion on ebay and other places what a "Fresnel" lens is. Fresnel lens - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I always thought it was the flat screen in front than the 3 lens (at least the 2 I scrapped last winter had 3 each) that look more like a concave magnifying lens. So, I didn't market them on ebay as "Frensel" lens. Maybe my loss.

The Mitsubishi RP tv I scrapped had the 3M Precision Optics Delta 78 lens and that set went for $10.50 on ebay. This tv also had nice cast Al "holding brackets" for the lens. The other Asian name (can't remember) had the Delta 77 lens they only went for $1.99 for the 3 lens set. I still have the colored plastic covers to all 6 of these lens.

So, my RP tvs lens ave. a little over $2 a piece on ebay. Still better than throwing them away. No yokes that I recall but no big tube to get rid of either. The Mitsubishi was pressed wood framed and was easier to bust up with the back of an ax than the other one that was a large single piece plastic covering in back. Something to do on a cold winter's night...
