A day in the life of a scrapper... Literally

I have been reading a lot on the forums lately and hear about all the big projects people work on, the great scores and all of that but how about an average day? Just post what one of your average working days is like even if you are a part time scrapper, or full time. Would be cool to hear how different scrappers manage their time.

My average day of scrapping when I'm not in school...

Go to my garage where I process all my loads that I accumulate all week

Sort into shred/ breakdown/ already broken down

Take apart all the electronics, other stuff that needs dismantled (most of day)

    Sort into bins

    Strip wire

    Clean up

We purchase laptop computers and many components for greater than scrap value. We offer a shipping reimbursement program.replies

I own a computer sales/service shop. Most of my day is spent fixing and repairing computers. I scrap on the slower days, mostly.

For me, scrapping is a last resort. While taking apart machines for recycling, I set aside and keep the good parts. The old/junk parts go into bins for sorting, and the potentially useful parts are tested.

Scrap value is the lowest that I'll take for anything. I'd rather use the parts or resell them. It pays better.

Today is my "weekend" from the full time job.
I decided to try and fix the loud SQUEELING my truck was doing when turning. Discovered there was a tiny leak in the Power Steerin lines and the fluid level was just BARELY below the min amount. I put some leak preventative crap in there for 5.99 and BAM. No noise!
I wanted to work that into the lines to I took a drive out to the "farm" which is the furthest I go to scrap (generally...). To my surprise when I pulled around to where they pile up scrap for me there was a PILE. I took a load in, got my trailer and took another load in.... annnnd a third load in. Turned out to be 5,400 pnds! Another huge benefit was I found a new scrapyard that was only 5 miles from the "farm". They paid a tad less @ 130 per GT, but I will take that tradeoff to not go the additional 20 miles round trip (at 10mpg!).

I do this part time. I generally get to commit 1 day a week to scrapping, and on the 6 I have off I almost always get at least 2-3 calls about scrap needing a pickup. So for me, most days I end up scrapping its at least this much, but I don't get nearly enough calls yet for it to support me full time.
