It's hot and that brings out in the worst in people sometimes. It also shows them for their true colors. It would appear that the faith has done nothing to foster that old man's spiritual growth if he has become so arrogant & self righteous as to put himself before all others.

In my tradition I can call a tribunal before the elders to resolve matters like these when they come up. All parties to the dispute are summoned, the elders listen impartially to everyone's side of the story, and render a verdict. Their verdict is final and the matter is considered to be resolved.
