By the way, on other forums I have seen sticky "CL sightings" type post where people would put links to ads like this one. Do we have a sticky like this here somewhere? If not, would it make sense to create one?
No Title and No wheels.. Wow that should be a literal nightmare for someone (legally and logistically!)
Original Ad:
I've got a 1984 Porsche 944 that I was using as a parts car. I've already pulled many of the good parts, but there is still some left. The wheels and suspension are gone, but the engine is still there. And there is value in the scrap steel. The catch? There are no wheels and you must tow it away today. Also NO TITLE.
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!
we have a couple threads for crazy cl stuff, but nothing like what you suggested.......you could start one
Currently looking for a job in or related to scrap/recycling. Relocation is possible for the right offer.
is it just me or does that craigslist as get anyone else thinking "hot" or "stolen"?
the engine in that cars worth at least $1000. not to mention othe misc parts.
to me it sounds too good to be true and dont know bout anyone else but no title, no sale. regulations have gotten to point not even a mans word or bill of sale are enough.
i wouldnt touch that car period.

I wonder if the cops have checked it out? If I was a metro burglary & robbery detective, I'd be checking my local CL every day multiple times a day...
An '84 should still have a VIN, right? One could easily check that by calling up the DMV I would think
"Don't try to be a great man, just be a man. Let history make its own judgments"
I doubt that, most DMVs hold records only so far back and even then, they don't give that info out to just anyone. Even carfax only goes back so far.
There is a website that you can do a VIN check.. and it will let you know if it is on the hot list or not!
I VIN Check all my purchased vehicles and keep a report.. so if somewhere down the line it comes back weird. I have my report from that day I bought it and that it came back clean.
There are a few D-bags out there who will sell their car.. then report it stolen.
So to have a VIN check to CYA (cover yer arse) is always the smart way to roll!
I can take cars over 10 years old with no title
If it looks shaky >> I have the local police come and run the vin before I load the car
I also take a good photo of Drivers Lic of the person I am getting the car from
As previously mentioned > CYA >> Cover Your Rear End
I get cars all the time from foreclosures , property clean ups etc. No titles. I always carry my paperwork from the bank stating I am to remove the vehicles from the property and dispose of them. As I see it if they wanted the car they had plenty of notice to remove the car themselves. As it is the scrapyard won't take a car without a title even if I have paperwork from the bank. So I just cut them up and dispose of them a 1/4 at a time. I've got 2 trailers dedicated to hauling 1/4r'ed cars to the scrap yard.
